Is there any way to auto download wish list tracks when they finally appear? I'm sure this must have happened to many of you - you're away from the computer when they finally appear after months/years, then add them from the user but the user is already offline and they never seem to come back online so you can download the tracks. If there was an auto download feature for wish list items that would solve this issue. Can Nir add this feature to the next soulseek update? Or is there any way we can do this now?

lolwut? this is peer-2-peer, not torrents with seed boxes or online sources (can't remember what they're called).

if the source never comes back online, you're screwed. simple as that. keep searching until you find another source.

Despite the snarky response, I actually think this would be a very useful addition, if it's something that could be coded successfully and without too much difficulty.

Having been a Soulseek user for many years, I can assure you that 'another source' may never show up, so triggering an 'auto-download' of matching Wish List tracks would be most gratefully received by me and lots of others.

and where would the source come from? Soulseek is PEER 2 PEER, not usenet.

the only way for this to happen would be for every single file that every user has in their shares to be automatically uploaded/backed up to a server that would host everything. we're talking about terabytes upon terabytes of data...would YOU take care of the bill? cost & maintenance?

if some of you actually used your brain before making stupid requests like this, I wouldn't HAVE TO get snarky.

Hi DJ, could you please dial it back a bit? These folks are just looking for help, and don't deserve verbal abuse. The forum should be a place for folks to come and ask questions without fear.

Thanks so much.

DJ, nobody is talking about hosting/backing up files to a 3rd party server. OP is essentially saying: When you are idling/away from your computer, WITH soulseek running in the background, there should be a feature to automatically download something that you have wishlisted, if such source goes online.
In the future, please try to comprehend what someone is saying before spreading hate.

I too would like this feature, but also see complications. Such automated downloading can run amok, fill up disks and max out ISP data limits, all while you’re AFK. These problems scale with the number of wish-listed entries. So user settable limits would be needed. Sufficient testing and continuing development resources (i.e. Nir) might be unavailable for such a project. Just sayin.

Another complication is, often search terms in my wishlist are for things where most matches won't be what I want and I can't tell without looking myself. And already compared to the old days I see too much that I'm uploading where I'm not convinced that the person I'm uploading to actually wants it, because they seem to have done something like queue everything containing a certain word (I assume that this because of the wider variety of clients accessing the network these days, especially bots). I'm not very fussy about who downloads stuff from me but I do prefer it if they actually want it!

Love this idea, I've missed out on rare stuff that has come online briefly but has disappeared again before I could nab it. I mean, a man has to sleep sometime!

An option could be "Auto download first 12 results" or "First 12 files" or even "auto download first 12 folders" and "ensure total download size < 1GB" That would keep things reasonable for disk space, bandwidth etc.

For me, I'm usually looking for very specific tracks - and when they are found, there's usually only one result anyways.
