Hello !

I just arrived in China and got the socket error message when I tried to connect to Soulseek. I use a VPN over there that enable me to access to every website.

Does someone know what parameter I can change in the Options tab to make it work ?

Thanks a lot !

Wendy

PS = I use SoulseekQt

I'm in China also and am having the same problem. Been here for 3 years and worked great until last month. Soulseek QT on a mac with a VPN. I have completely uninstalled it and always get the same Socket Error message no matter what wifi network I'm on.

Any help would be great, dying here without it.

Jon

Me too. I'm in Chengdu. Soulseek been great last 2 years until last month. It has had the same not being able to connect problem before and fixed itself but this time it seems to be prolonged. Are there any equivalent programs to ss? Limewire is down last I heard??

Actually I don't think a VPN will make it work for this... so far local guys like me are suffering from the same problem, due to the tense political reason in October.
All we can do is wait.

There WAS a way to deal with it:

But it's not working either these days. We've been waiting for several weeks but there's nothing changed.

I'm local Chinese btw

Pardon me for not having responded, I feel your pain.

Llike originally suggested by Wendy since I signed up for the Stealth option on my Astrill VPN my SLSK (praise be) has been working again. Been a few weeks now and as long as its connected it works like it always did. My provider is China Mobile and I use a standard TP link Router. iirc in the past I didn't need a strong VPN for SLSK to work here in China. Mild bummer as now its seems we need a VPN going for it to work but better then nothing. I suggest trying that if you have no other options. My friends are ranting and raving about VPN.AC but I have not used it yet

I agree, no matter by VPN or Shadowsocks whatever, we need a proxy to get access to the server address, simply for a logon,
while P2P transfter don't need anything at all (some VPN providers might ban you for that).

So if you can read Chinese, just try this:

...after any SOCKS 5 proxy is prepared.
