Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a way to run Soulseek through a VPN.  I recently payed for GooseVpn (pretty cheap: 2-3 euros / month) however, I can only download, not upload.  I asked the support team but they told me they don't support port forwarding.  For SoulSeek I need 2 forwarded ports I believe.  So I was interested to hear from other users:

-do you know a cheap, good VPN that works with soulseek?
-any other way to work with soulseek through a VPN?
-UPNP possible through VPN?

Soulseek needs no vpn. P2P is almost like a vpn. ISP's can snoop and see that you are downloading but they don't know what you are downloading with P2P programs. Why do you think soulseek has survived? I hope this helps.

Hi, not all VPN Providers allow port forwarding. Yours is one of them, another common and well-used Provider (ExpressVPN) is another.
If you are using Soulseek through a VPN connection, you will need to subscribe to a VPN that DOES allow port forwarding.
PIA (Private Internet Access) is one that does, and works well.
There are a few steps to get VPN enabled access to Soulseek, including creating a port/hole in your router, identifying the port router your VPN uses (this will need to be configured when setting up your new VPN on your computer), then setting the port fwd number in your Soulseek clients.

One other note, depending on what VPN you select, they will only allow port forwarding in certain locations, not all. So be mindful of that when setting your default VPN locale.
