Kubuntu, 25.10. Soulseek QT crashes upon trying to search for something. This is because of ulimits.
Been this way for months

There might be a way to raise the limit inside the client. I'm focusing on something else right now but I'll try to get a build going as soon as I can. In the meantime you can raise the limit yourself using ulimit -n of course.

i came here to say the exact same thing. i am on fedora kde plasma.
QT crashes at any chance is gets. nicotine works fine but for me, it does not show nearly as many results as QT and most of the downloads arent finishing. anyway, i much much much prefer QT and just wish i could find a solution for this. i have a crash report if needed..

Can confirm problem is NOT KDE. Tried on GNOME and Soulseek constantly crashes. Sometimes it'll crash instantly. Neither ulimit or disabling results limit in client fixes the problem.

Bizarrely can also vaguely confirm Soulseek was not having this problem for me at the latest on May 30th, so this may be a full necro post. Also anyone know where to find the docs?

Might you be able to get a stack trace of where it's crashing by running it in gdb and using the bt command after it crashes?

Fixed the problem, my bad. gdb said the problem still was ulimit despite me thinking I had raised it. I was following a stackoverflow post that had wrong info, but I found the right way to set ulimit and it's stopped crashing (praise Altman praise ChatGPT). I thought it was related to OPs problem but its not. Will remove posts.
