Hi there.
I have a rather strange problem with the SoulseekQT under Linux Mint.
The program works correctly for 2-3 hours, after that time I observe that the uploaded files mark "general error" or "error", and the downloads also fail, I close Soulseek,
I reopen it and it is about 2 hours ago, deleting the conversations that I have made later and the download queues that I had.
that's normal?
Under Windows it has never happened to me, and it is very annoying to have to restart the program 5 times a day.
Greetings.

OS: Linux Mint 20.2
Computer: i7-4770S // 16GB RAM // 1 SSD 120GB + 2x HDD 4TB + 1x HDD 1TB

Yep, am on Ubuntu 20.04 and have exactly the same problem, although it seems random to me how long it works. Downloads tend to keep going until they finish but any files on queue afterwards will remain on queue indefinitely.

Hi there.
It is very frustrating, since you do not know what had been programmed, you receive messages that then when you reopen they have disappeared, downloads that you were doing and then you do not know which ones were still to be downloaded, and anger on the part of the users who download from me, since it gives them error.
I hope there is some update for linux, because the program is super fast in linux (downloads and uploads of 74000kb / s, in my case it is 100% of the line, which with Windows does not exceed 39000kb / s)
Greetings.

First if you observe that much of a speed difference depending on your OS it's probably your antivirus/firewall or your network card drivers.

Second you can try and 1) enable logging (Options -> UI -> Show diagnostics and General -> Enable user-level logging) and read the logs to see if you can come up with something, or 2) run soulseek under strace to see what problem soulseek is encountering when opening files.

Hello again.
effectively hangs aborting both uploads and downloads, and usually occurs when it takes more than 2-3 hours. In the diagnosis it simply says "transfer aborted", and the chat does not work, neither does the search engine. When I close it and open it again, it works normally but returns to its state 2 hours before hanging up, including chats.
I have tried a different machine with linux (ubuntu in this case) and it does the same.
what happens to the user " bit ... @ gmail.com "is exactly the same.

Wild guess: is it possible that soulseek keeps too many files open?

I was doing normal use, always downloading 2-3 albums, equivalent to about 20 songs in the queue, it was not a lot.  Searches I always try to have 3 or 4 tabs at most

But are you uploading stuff?

Well, yes, but why does this not happen in Windows, and what can we do to prevent it? There's a way to augment the nb of files that the system can handle but that only postpones the problem.
I tried strace, but I don't really understand what it tells me...

Yes, I upload files but not many,
I have limited access to a large part of the library to avoid abuse, and even so when you least expect it it crashes and I have to close it and reopen it.

Today it has been blocked 3 times, and I have only downloaded 35 songs all day, about 200 songs will have been downloaded from me among all the users  throughout the day  .
It has already started putting "local error" on all uploads. To make matters worse, the users send me angry messages for "having canceled the transfers",
I hope you will repair the problem soon, because nothing strange appears in the logs, and we are several users affected.
And my computer is not the problem, it has enough speed (i7-4700S, 16GB RAM) and a fiber optic connection of 600MB without any restrictions, and the Linux has just been reinstalled for 3 weeks.
I hope your answer.

I have to say this is very erratic behaviour. Last night, I went to sleep and left soulseek on, and nothing happened. I slept for abt 7 hrs.
I did update some things last night. Maybe there was some sort of conflict, and these updates resolved it? I'll keep u posted...

any news about it? Because this is just as unstable ( it keeps marking "local error" when it hangs up and forces me to close and reopen, and so on 2 or 3 times a day.)

Just use nicotine+ ... its way better than QT

Hello again.
I'm not using the "nicotine +" because I have several folders locked for users on my list, but of course, I want it to be visible to everyone, and the nicotine blocking them makes them not appear in the search engine.
Is there a way that you can have the folders locked, but that any user can see their content on the Nicotine +?
Thanks.

as far as i know they fixed that and they now show up with label [PRIVATE FOLDER].. but you'll want to test for yourself to make sure it does what you need. not that nicotine is perfect, i just know every time i use QT it still doesn't do many of things i want it to

Linux has been updated two days ago and now it is worse than ever, it crashes searching, with a download queue of 20 files, etc. Why are Linux users so forgotten, when this client is the best performing client of all?

so, apparently, the downloading users get absolutely no feedback on their end. I just tested this with a user while we were chatting and he told me his files are just queued, like nothing happened.
I find this very strange.

actually, and I should've mentioned earlier, if I, for some reason, don't notice and start downloads, add users to my list, or chat after this happens, it doesn't register any of that, and it's gone upon restart.

Hello again. After trying two intense weeks the SoulseekQT no longer crashes, that is, I had to modify the linux file limit of 1024 (insufficient for soulseek apparently) to the recommended maximum of 65535, and it has not crashed again, it even runs lighter and smoother than before.

In case someone is interested, do the following:

# Edit the files "/etc/systemd/system.conf" and "/etc/systemd/user.conf"
And we add in both the line  : DefaultLimitNOFILE=65535

We restart and finally execute the following command to see the results ( should show the value 65535 ) :

ulimit -n

-----------
Since then it has not been blocked any more. I hope you find it helpful.
Greetings.

I had (have?) the same problem. I even had to ban a guy (or a girl) for calling me clown and insisting to insult me when I tried to explain (he/she thought I deliberately stopped his/her downloads, but it was this problem). I followed your instructions and hope it's fixed now. Can't tell now, guess I have to wait some hours and uploads to see. It didn't cause any problems downloading though, I could still search and add downloads. However, once I restarted I lost the newly added downloads (and chats too).

Thanks in advance!
