Dear All,

There seem to be some misunderstandings and confusions still that are causing issues within our group as well as hindering the work necessary for this important cause. In an attempt to move forward and continue the good work we have ALL already started, let's do this:

1. Core vs ExComm & membership therein
There are concerns regarding the inclusion of new core members, the creation of the executive committee and delineation of roles/responsibilities between the two. Instead of hashing up the merits of all points raised (on both side) thus far, in my opinion, the following seems to be a good way to proceed--keeping in mind that sometimes we have to slow down to speed up:

* Have an announced meeting of the original core committee members (excluding those who have already removed themselves) where the specific agenda item is the expansion of core members & the criteria for this choice (applicable in the future as well). This would remain a closed discussion to original core only so that there can be a candid discussion with advance notice. Whoever cannot make the meeting but has concerns/objections must raise them via email in advance--after this meeting, the new core will be finalized for the immediate future.

* Follow this meeting CLOSELY by a meeting of the core plus the Executive Committee members (decided on Dec 25 & finalized via email shortly thereafter). The agenda of this meeting should include:
1. Announcement of new Core Members (pending their acceptance)
2. Delineation of core v ExComm roles/responsibilities. 15 minutes
3. Mission Statement including a discussion on: 30 minutes
* Are we human rights based, religious or a combination thereof? (& who gets to join us)
* Where do we fall on gender neutrality & whether we have limits in how women participate?
4. Defining our organizational procedures: 15 minutes
* meetings/coordination/notes/follow-up etc
4. Finances & Fundraising 15 minutes
5. Actions & Events 30 minutes
* Shia Summit
* Advocacy through US govt (we tabled this decision as to whether to move forward on this until later at the last meeting)
* Petitions on whitehouse.gov
* June 6 event plans

2. Next in-person meeting (with conference line for those living outside of NJ/NY):
I propose the following:
First 30 minutes: Original Core (minus those who removed themselves)
Next 1.75 hours: Core & ExComm Meeting
(agenda as described above)

Date currently proposed:
Sunday Jan 27 6:30 pm was proposed by Mohsin Uncle & Jaffar Uncle for an in person plus conference call for those far away.
VERY few replies were sent to rsvp for this time so please confirm your availability for the in person/conference call meeting through this doodle link:

(NOTE: please select on ALL times and dates you are available for not simply the best time for you so we can maximize attendance). Please do this ASAP and no later than by 8 PM Saturday so that if the majority can make it on Sunday, January 27th, Jaffar Uncle is given adequate notice.

My apologies if I inadvertently offended anyone, but given all of the work we have in front of us, I thought this was the best way to move forward and thus, have laid out this plan to keep us all focused on moving forward on this important cause.

Thank you,
Sakina
