Marie and I are wondering if you would be available to meet on the
weekend of August 15 for an informal gathering. Our backup date would
be August 22. I'm open on times--either mid-morning through mid-
afternoon (lunch), or mid-afternoon through evening (dinner).

Since this is our first year, each family should bring its own picnic
meal, though we will bring some to share. Of course, I'm open to
other options (e.g., if you have a family favorite you are just dying
to share). We'll plan to grill our main dish. It should be late
enough in the season for sweet corn? Anyone interested in doing a corn
roast or corn boil?

Since our newest family lives near the Rochester area, I'll try to
identify a park that lies somewhere between Rochester and the
southwestern suburbs. Marie and I have already committed to the
longer drive. If you would like (or need) a park with specific
amenities, please let me know.

Please post whether or not you would be available and willing to
come. If you or your doctors know any other Minnesota families that
have dealt with or are dealing with Sotos Syndrome, please let them
know about this discussion group, and invite them to join us.

We would be available on Sunday, August 16th or the 23rd. My husband works on Saturdays being he is a restaurant Manager. I think a picnic would be great, preferably earlier in the day between 10-3 would work best for us. If it is alright we could also bring something to grill along with a fruit salad to share with everyone. I am not a fan of sweet corn but my husband and my oldest daughter are so a corn roast would be great.

August 16th would work for us, but it would have to be later in the
day as my husband leads worship at his church that weekend and he
usually doesn't get home til about 1:00 p.m. The weekend of August
22/23 wouldn't work for us.

That being said, it looked like the preference was for earlier in the
day, and since we are the newest members of this group, don't let our
availability hold anyone back. Go ahead and go with what works best
for everyone else. If it works for us great -- we'll be there. If
not, we'll catch you all next time around.

It would have to be later in the day for us as well since we wont get out of services til noon or later and would need to drive a bit to our meeting location. So Im thinking perhaps 2 pm .

Hey Lisa,

If the 16th works for you later in the day then no problem. I would like for all us to be able to attend.

Let's plan on Sunday afternoon, August 16th, from 2-6 PM. Of course,
anyone will be free to stay longer. The location is yet to be
determined. I'm looking into the Cannon Falls and Northfield areas.

By chance, do your families have Minnesota State Park passes? If so, I
could add State Parks to the list of locations I'll investigate.

If you are interested in a generic blurb to put in your local paper,
please let me know. I'm writing one up for our local paper, and it
will be something easily modified for your use. I figure anything we
can do to increase awareness about Sotos Syndrome will be helpful.

That sounds great for us. Thanks all for being accommodating. We
don't have any state park passes either.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. We were on vacation at the
Wisconsin Dells and just returned today.

We're still on for Sunday, but I have not nailed down a location.
Sorry. :(

I'm open to suggestions. I'm trying to find a public park with grills
and shelter. We won't be able to reserve a shelter, so we'll hope for
the best.

Marie will read this message, so she'll be sure to remind me to find
something tonight!

We are unfortunately unable to go.
My husband is a restaurant manager for Chilis and he has to work all weekend being the other manager went on maternity leave early.
I hope everyone else has a great time!

Should we try for a weekend in September instead where everyone could
make it. September still has some nice weather for a picnic.

How's Cannon Falls for a location? It's about 45 minutes from
Rochester, and about an hour from Chaska (taking 494 across before
heading south, per Google Maps).

If that distance is okay, I'm looking at Lake Byllesby County Park on
the Goodhue County side of the lake (the south side). Do note that
Dakota County has a regional park by the same name, if you try
searching for the park online.

From the Cannon Falls Public Works Department website:

> Goodhue County’s Lake Byllesby Park is located on the south side of Lake Byllesby,
> approximately 1 mile west of US HWY 52 on the north side of MN State Hwy 19, west
> of Cannon Falls, in the northwest corner of Goodhue County. In addition to this 25
> acre park site, the County owns 7.5 acres of shoreland located about 600 feet west
> of the main park.
>
> ...
>
> Amenities at Goodhue County’s Lake Byllesby Park include a fishing dock, boat
> launch, marked swimming area (no lifeguard on duty), play area, volley ball court,
> walking trails, picnic areas with grills, 3 covered picnic shelters, several
> portable toilets, and hard surface parking lots. There are several benches placed
> along the water front as well. The Park is handicap accessible. There are paved
> paths from the walking trails to the 3 picnic shelters. There is no fee to enter
> or use Goodhue County’s Lake Byllesby Park.

From the map I found online, it also looks like there is a fishing
pier.

Let me know.

We just received my husbands schedule from work. Our only available weekend dates would be September 19th or the 27th. He also has Labor Day weekend off but I am sure you all have already made plans. If these dates do not work then please go ahead and have your picnic. Unfortunately, in the restaurant business your schedules our very unpredictable and can change at the last minute.

Otherwise, as for the location it sounds great.

I think we're open to Memorial Day weekend. The 16th could work, too. If on the 27th, it would need to be afternoon, as I'll be returning from a campout with three of our sons that morning.

How about any others? What about those dates?

Sat., Sept. 5, Memorial Day weekend
Sun., Sept. 6, Memorial Day weekend
Mon., Sept. 7, Memorial Day (I'd expect the park to be busy)
Sat., Sept. 19
Sun., Sept. 27

We do have plans for Labor Day weekend. My husband has a conflict
with September 19th also. We're trying to see if we can rearrange
things to make the 19th work since that seems to be a good date for
everyone else. I'll let you know as soon as I know. I'm expecting it
will take a day or two to get it all figured out.

Cannon Falls sounds great for us, if that works for everyone else.

Sounds good. Saturday, September 19 it is, at Goodhue County's Lake
Byllesby County Park just outside of Cannon Falls.

Shall we shoot for 10AM until mid-afternoon?

My family and I will try to get there a little early to see if we can grab a
shelter.

Just a reminder: each family should bring its own meal and picnic
supplies. We'll bring some cole slaw (on ice) to share.

We may not be able to get there as early as we hoped (to nab a

I hope you all have a really great time and enjoy meeting with each other.

On another note, Mackenzie has completed her early childhood program and can now officially start pre-school on Monday!! She is really excited to meet new friends and learn new things. It will be great for us to see her progress towards kindergarten.

As it turned out, we ended up at different parks, across the lake from
each other--Lake Byllesby County Park, and Lake Byllesby Regional
Park. We thought about trying again in October, but the other family
suggested waiting until spring. Any others here have any interest in

The Autumn begins my husbands extreme busy season at work -- so we
