The Silent University is an informal knowledge exchange platform initiated by artist Ahmet Ögüt in collaboration with myself and Nora Raizan, working with asylum seekers and refugees who, although from a professional background, cannot gainfully practice their profession due to the limitations of the asylum process, which also apply to access to education, access to currency, and volunteering. For further info visit www.thesilentuniversity.org and on http://www.tate.org.uk/about/projects/silent-university
Some of the themes that emerged during the course of the project were alternative economies, silence, migration, and alternative education. We are getting in touch with interesting organisations and projects across the UK and internationally to contribute to a public resource room that we re putting together as part of the project. The aim of the resource room is to enable the general public to engage with the theme of the project and discover the wealth of projects and initiatives that are involved with these questions.
We would very much like the School of the Future to contribute material that describes or articulates what you do at SoftheF.
This can be either printed material, such as publications or writings, by email or even a series of references to material that inform your work and approach. If you are interested please can you contact me on Synthia....@tate.org.uk. We are able pay a small contribution towards postage or are happy to recieve email contributions ideally during the opening of the resouce room between 7-30 Nov.
many thanks,
