UPDATE: Efforts to Free Hopewell Chinono- Letter to President Ramaphosa

Dear All, 

This is to update you on the efforts by MMA, CPJ, SANEF, Civicus, FXI, IAJ and others to call for the release of jailed journalist, Hopewell Chinono.

SOS is an official co-signatory to the Letter to the South African President to intervene in the matter, in South Africa’s capacity as Chair of the AU.

The letter will also be shared with the Special Rapporteur at the AU.

Nieman has also issued a short statement on the matter.

We will continue to join any other efforts that seek to release jailed journalists, protect journalists and our rights to freedom of expression.
