She is an elderly yet formidably lady who lives in New York City. While initially a minor character in the first film, she gets a larger role in the second one as the secondary antagonist, becoming the leader of all stranded New Yorkers in Africa while trying to capture and/or get rid of the Zoosters.

Nana is a mean, violent, aggressive, short-tempered, and cantankerous elderly lady. She is very cruel to her enemies such as Alex and Makunga, beating them up in a comically violent way. However, she can be polite and friendly to others as shown when she thanks the tour guide for opening the jeep door for her after she defeats Alex in their fight. She calls a tourist a good boy when he returns Nana's handbag to her.

In the first film, Nana is an elderly woman who encounters Alex the Lion in Grand Central Station, where she assaults him and angrily calls him a "bad kitty". She also hits the giraffe named Melman with her handbag, causing his head to get stuck in the Grand Central Station Clock. When the animals are surrounded by police, she somehow gets past and kicks Alex in "the batteries" (or his groin). She was quickly taken away by police. As shown in the sequel, she was not arrested, as she was interviewed as a witness.

In the second film, Nana has a larger role, where she is the secondаry antagonist. She first shows up in a tourist jeep spotting Alex, as Alex and his friends crash landed into the African savannah in a plane and were seeking help. Alex, upon seeing Nana again, challenges her to another fight and they exchange lots of punches and blows to each other, but Nana gains the upper hand and badly bruises Alex before returning to her jeep.

Later on, the penguins while looking for automobile parts to repair their plane decided to start stealing cars from the humans. The penguins start their car-hijacking rampage with the tourist jeep Alex ran into, and literally throw Nana out of the jeep when they notice that she did not fall for their distraction like everyone else did. The penguins soon carjack dozens of people who were tourists in the savannah leaving them stranded. The tourists just about start panicking that they lost their transportation to get back home, but Nana hushes them to calm down and offers to guide them.

Nana becomes the leader of an army of tourists and she soon instructs the tourists to take all of the water that they can from the resort that the African wildlife drink from. After he usurped the role of Alpha Lion away from Alex's father Zuba, Makunga refuses to do anything about the water shortage and taunts the animals must either retrieve the water themselves or just find more water outside the reserve which is poacher territory. The animals argue that both options are fatally dangerous, but Alex and Marty volunteer to go find the water because the water must be elsewhere. Nana manages to capture Alex and stop him from taking back the water while Marty escapes to get help. Nana then hogties Alex and starts roasting him on a barbecue as a means to feed herself and the hungry tourists, as well as a bonus revenge on Alex (although the tour guide objects to Nana eating a lion).

Luckily, Zuba arrives to rescue his son. Alex and Zuba then distract and entertain the tourists with their dancing, but Nana isn't amused by it and still tries to shoot the lions using the tour guide's gun.

Before she can kill the lions, however, the penguins and Marty arrive in their chimp-powered plane and pull away Alex and Zuba to safety inside a bucket with the intent to take back the water. Nana climbs up on the water dam that she and the tourists built and starts waving her handbag, aiming it at the lions. However, the penguins smash the bucket holding the lions into the water dam, making Nana fall and collapsing the dam which makes the water flow back to the resort, seemingly killing Nana in the process.

Near the end of the film, once they make it back to the reserve, Alex gives Makunga Nana's handbag. Makunga admires it but tells Alex that he has still banished, which prompts Alex to drop the bucket which releases Nana. When Nana sees Makunga holding her bag, she beats him up by kicking him in the crotch, stomping on foot, slapping his hand with a ruler, giving him a wet Willy, burns his arm, and spanks him. She then drags him away by his ear, ending his reign as Alpha Lion.

She is very tough for her age, and is incredibly resistant to injury, as she was able to have a short fight with Alex right after being tugged out of the back of a speeding tour jeep as well as being thrown out of it a second time by the penguins, who reversed over her in the jeep after noticing that she did not die. Even after the penguins slam the jeep on her, she shows no sign of injury. Though she beats Alex in a rather brutal way, she warns him that she won't go so easy on him next time, implying that she wasn't fighting at her full strength.

Nana is a little old lady that appear in Madagascar Penguins in A Christmas Caper, the first Madagascar film, and the second Madagascar film. She is usually mean, and violent. Despite her old age, she usually ends up winning a fight and comes out unscathed.

Madagascar Penguins in A Christmas Caper was Nana's first major role, despite the fact she never knowledge the penguins' presence. She was first looking for a squeaky toy for her dog Mr. Chew, and brought Private ,believing him to be a quality squeaky toy for her dog. The other penguins followed her to apartment, but due to closing the door before they could get in, they had to find another way in. Inside the apartment while Nana was wrapping Private she complained about Christmas being every year. After stuffing Private in Mr. Chew's stocking, she watched the football game on television, completely unaware of the fight between the penguins, and her dog behind her. After Private was saved, she blamed the mess of the fight on Mr. Chew.

Nana didn't play a big part in the first Madagascar movie. She was seen entering Grand Central Station the same as Alex, whom she beat up, and spayed pepper spray on. When the animals were surrendered, she broke from the crowd, and kicked Alex in the "batterys".

Nana played a bigger role in the second Madagascar movie. She was seen in the recap of the first movie calling Alex "a bad kitty". Nana was later seen on the tourist jeep that the main characters saw before they realized they were in Africa, when she and Alex spotted each other they got in a fight, which resulted in Alex getting kicked in the "batterys" again. Now the same jeep was hijack by the penguins she called them "hoodlums" for throwing her out of they jeep. She was in charge of the tourists after the penguins took all they're jeeps. When Alex was captured by them, she suggested that they eat him (stating that lions taste like chicken).After Alex saved both his, and Zuba's lives. Although, Nana thinking Alex's performance was "beautiful," still wanted to eat them. But they ended up being saving Marty, Melman,Gloria,the penguins, and the chimps. Nana tried to shoot down the plane, but only ended shooting off Lola's head. She was used to dethrone Manukaga by Alex ,and his father.

Nana,and Alex seem to moral enemies,as she beaten him in both Madagascar movies.When Alex sees her in the jeep,he relizes her the old lady who beaten him in New York City.Even after Alex's show,and him leaving she stills what to shoot him.Ironically,Alex used her to get rid of Manunkaga.

She gets into another fight with Alex, and wins again, although Alex puts up much more of a fight this time. At the end of the film, Alex gives Makunga Nana's handbag. When Nana sees Makunga holding it, she starts kicking, stepping, hand-whacking, wet-willying, arm-burning, and spanking him before taking him away. The DVD commentary for the film reveals that Nana took Makunga back to New York in her kitty cage.
