I've been using free version of CCleaner for a few years now, and had no problems, and have also used Google Chrome as my browser for many years. But recently, I've noticed that when I click some links, they open up in this new CCleaner browser, which is most annoying, as I want to use chrome as my browser. Can you please explain how this happened, because I don't remember installing a new browser. Also, a website I'm using now for a paid educational course needs me to install a Chrome extension application, and it's going to be a real pain if I have to constantly swap between the two browsers to do this. In fact, I doubt that the chrome extension will even work, if it resides on Chrome, and the main website is open in CCleaner browser. How did I end up with CCleaner browser?

I am having a similar experience with ccleaner browser in Win10. I did not want to install it, but missed the check box when I was updating my CCleaner app. I've tried using the Control Panel and Apps & features to uninstall the browser. Didn't work. I've also tried the CCleanerBrowserUninstall.exe located in C:\Program Files (x86)\CCleaner Browser. That didn't work either. All three methods above did nothing. I'm super frustrated...

Many people have unused browsers and other software they never use just sat around on their computer doing nothing, unless you are short of storage space it's not a real problem just a slight annoyance if you don't want it there.

Hi there, I have flagged this issue to our Browser team, and they require Diagnostic information in order to investigate this issue further. It would be great if you could please share that with us, either here or with sup...@ccleaner.com.

If you are meaning that the quick access folder is showing your recently used files, and you don't want see that that but don't want to delete them either, then you can change that behavour in File Explorer.

If instead you want CCleaner to clear the Recently Used list altogether then you will have to use Custom Clean and not Health Check.
(Health Check does not clear that list as many/most users do want to keep that list).

to fix the problem, go to ccleaner's "options"/"advanced" and, at the bottom, click "restore default settings." after that, when you run ccleaner, if edge is running, you will see a prompt, asking if you want ccleaner to close edge.

i think that clicking "restore default settings," in ccleaner's "options"/"advanced," would restore the default settings, where you again would see the prompt, asking you if you wanted ccleaner to close "edge."

I use Windows 10 as my OS and Google Chrome as my web browser. I prefer not to delete Internet History as I find it a quick way to access regularly used websites and I have unchecked it. However Ccleaner seems to want to do it anyway. Chrome is not mentioned in the Cleaner items and I don't know what to do about that either.

Chrome getting it's settings deleted and/or corrupted was something introduced into CC v5.42 and isn't related to Kaspersky from what I've read on the forum. Based upon that if using CC v5.42 I would recommend that you do not let it clean Chrome until they release a fixed version of CCleaner. Alternatively you can also downgrade to CCleaner v5.40.6411 if you want to clean Chrome without any possibility of CCleaner corrupting your Chrome profile (old versions of CCleaner are listed here on FileHippo.com on the right side of the page).

This is not a big deal, but just curious. On my desktop with free version, Windows 10, my CCleaner has always started on the customize cleaning page, where you can check and uncheck what you want ccleaner to clean. I recently got a new laptop with Windows 11 and installed the same version of CCleaner. I think the startup settings are the same, but the page it starts on is different, giving choices for Run cleaner, Analyze or Customize, where you need to click into the customize page. Any thoughts why it acts differently on my desktop and laptop? Is it the Windows 10 vs 11 thing? Is it a setting I am missing? Is it perhaps that I have updated the desktop from old versions for years and at one point was a subscriber? Or am I missing or not seeing a setting somewhere?

Why do I say that? Because, the idea of making it simple for simple-minded people who can't decide or be bothered with complex check boxes, are given no options and the behavior is so different from the original CCleaner. Appears the development decision was about saving money/making way more..all the while saying it's more valuable now and charging an arm and a leg for it. Hence pushing, pushing, pushing pop-ups and higher prices. In fact, the value is near zero as the pop-ups and development decisions have been self-centered on their desires (For a few years now) and not in the best value/interests of customers', like you and I? So there we have it. Looks like CCleaner has been hi-jacked and the team is focused on profits over true value.

Seriously, never felt this bad about a product. It sucks when you love a product, see it get acquired to burn through the customer list and milked. I wanted to support it, but it's really feeling like another form of malware at this point.

As previously mentioned - some users like the additional savings that can be obtained from the cashback and some prefer the simplicity of a straight discount. CCleaner does not collect or correlate information on its customers that would allow us to target offers based on predicted user preferences - so we offer both and let our customers decide which they want. If a particular offer does not appeal to you, you are of course free to wait to see some future offer suits you better.

"Those are not ads..." then what are they. They take up nearly a quarter of my 27-inch monitor and are unwanted. They are not a loyalty bonus or special deal ... you have our email for that. They are a blatant popup ad. Today, it popped up while I was in the middle of editing a video, and trying to make a precuse edit, which the popup screwed up.

Well not quite. For customers who are not on autobilling it is quite reasonable to let them know in advance that they need to take some action to avoid having their service cut-off. To ensure that customers on autobilling are not at any disadvantage (such as yourself, as your subscription for CCleaner Professional Plus was due to be billed to your credit card in about a month), we periodically make offers available to renew at a lower price. For customers who forgot they they had a CCleaner subscription that they may not want to have billed for whatever reason, this also serves as an additional advance reminder to cancel prior to their upcoming billing date.

Firstly-
I suspect that when ccleaner finishes that it checks if you have 'Run when the computer starts' ticked (or anything else) and changes the reg entry(s) based on if it's ticked or not.
So that would change it back to /AUTOS. (unless you have put the extra space on the end).

You might want to take a look at AdwCleaner from Malwarebytes. It's not a rival to CCleaner, it does a different job. What the latest versions of Adw can do is remove unwanted/uneeded start up items and background tasks that the computer manufacturer has put there.

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling & reinstalling Firefox (make sure you save your book marks and any settings just in case, although when you uninstall it asks if you want to retain your bookmarks so you should be safe).

(2) Under 'Options' > 'Settings'. Select 'Normal file deletion' instead of 'Secure file deletion'. You only need to select 'Secure file deletion' if you want CCleaner to physically overwrite the entire file that it is deleting.

First of all, it is SUPER annoying when any software DEFAULTS to automatically running on your system, and it is juvenile to code it to do so. Second, I am seriously pissed off that not only did it set up that way, but apparently you guys have gone out of your way to make it real hard to turn this off. Here is what I want:

Heya @Bill Nolan, I'm sorry to hear that. We can help you out and see what's going on with your app on your device if you contact our team with an email at sup...@ccleaner.com so they could have a better look over your situation.

If you go to Options Settings in CCleaner Portable you can still enable Inform me of updates to CCleaner, but if you are using the portable version then you are likely only plugging in your USB drive and running CCleaner Portable off your thumb drive when you want to run the occasional disk cleanup. If I want to check for updates with CCleaner Portable I just check manually by clicking the Check for Updates link at the the bottom of the GUI.
