Areaschools have been notifying students and parents of the online education links and resources that will help children resume their schooling. Here are some that have added resources:Carlsbad Unified School District: The recommended activities on the Extended Learning Activities website will not take the place of regular classroom instruction, but will supplement student learning at home:

Encinitas Union School District: Learning @ Home provides a general set of learning activities that can be conducted at home using district-provided resources. This instructional resource page provides families in Poway Unified School District support during school closures. For each category, you will find activities, ideas, and digital resources to engage children. More resources may be available from the school site and/or teacher.


Santee School District: links to enrichment activity worksheets for those students who did not bring home iPads. Also, to help children cope, the Santee School District Counselors & Social Workers have complied a list of Social and Emotional Resources for Long Distance Learning. The list is categorized by grade:


For adults and kids: San Diego-based TakeLessons has two free online classes per week, at 11 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays offer kid-friendly classes in academic tutoring, music, and language. On Fridays, classes are adult-focused with job skills and self-improvement subjects. The goal is to help people develop new, useful skills while temporarily unemployed. TakeLessons recently extended its classroom to offer free classes to those at home through a new program called TakeLessons TV. At noon May 5, people can tune in to cook with Chef Stevie. The Cinco de Mayo cooking class will feature how to cook a lime chicken taco bowl with sweet corn & avocado salsa and a pineapple-mint agua fresca specialty beverage. Register by visiting this link. Springs Charter Schools in Temecula has launched a free public open classroom for students in grades K-8, with resources available for high school students, whether they are enrolled at Springs or not. Content is aligned with state standards, and material has been created by credentialed teachers, with live classes taught by credentialed teachers four days weekly. KPBS: In partnership with KPBS and the San Diego County Office of Education, students are encouraged to access state standards-aligned television programming scheduled by grade level. A student does not need access to a computer or the internet to watch. Tune into KPBS 2 with an antenna at channel 15.2, or on Cox 811 or Spectrum 1277. Scavenger hunt: Make a list of 10 items to find (something soft, something round, something green, etc.) Then walk around the neighborhood to find these, or hunt in your backyard. Raining out? Try to find these items around the house.
