I am creating a mobile site that contains links to videos on the
Sorenson360 site. We are using a custom flash player for the regular
site, but was hoping we could link directly to a phone version of the
video. The client's understanding was that there was a common link and
Soresnon360 would figure out that it was a phone and send the suitable
version of the video. That hasn't work for us.

The site is http://triotv.osu.edu/mobile.

Thanks,
David

Hi David:

Are you guys choosing the "Web & Mobile (H.264)" preset when encoding
the videos?

David:

Are you expecting a different version of the file depending on the
client? At present we do not provide different resolutions or bit rate
depending on the version of the video. The exact same video file is
served every single time. That is just the file itself. The one
difference between a mobile client and a desktop browser is that we do
provide a different player which has no impact on the original file
itself. The player that we use on a desktop client is flash based and
not all mobile clients support flash. So at present only apple
devices (ipads, iphones, ipods) are configured through our embed codes
to use the mobile client. All this does is provide a different
player, one that does not require flash.

Currently, the system cannot trigger use of that different player
through the embed codes. We have plans to implement an html 5 player
as well as variable bit rate files in the future.

Thanks. Our understanding was incorrect.

Let me add something... The direct path to the file is available from
the API. You can link directly to the file on your website which will
cause the native player on the phone to play it (assuming you are
encoding to h.264).

This is actually not always the case. Many phones will not play a direct linked video if it is too large.

As pointed out in previous emails, we have solutions that we will be releasing for specific devices other than the iPhone and iPad down the road.
