Tricia is a Registered Nurse with three decades of medico-legal experience. As the Director of Medical and Scientific Solutions, she combines analytical insight with business acumen to successfully lead a team of medical and scientific professionals, including PhDs, BSN-level nurses, a DVM, a medical librarian, and other research and technical consultants in the defense of individual product liability claims, multi-district litigation, and mass torts.

As a client advocate and defense-oriented medical consultant, Tricia has worked to support litigation throughout the US and internationally for clients in a wide variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, health care, manufacturing, insurance, automotive, trucking, and consumer products.

She works directly with clients to plan, develop, and implement litigation-specific medical work products. She and the MSS team address relevant medical litigation issues, outline alternative causation theories, simplify complex medical lingo, and identify key expert witnesses. This innovative and effective multidisciplinary team of medical and scientific specialists is committed to client satisfaction.

Dean Davis has been on the UK Rosenberg Law faculty since 1991. She joined the faculty after six years of a products liability litigation defense practice for the law firms of Womble, Carlyle, Sandridge & Rice in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and McGuire, Woods, Battle, & Boothe in Richmond, Virginia. Her experience, which involved management of nationwide litigation, has informed her scholarship in the field of products liability.

She was selected in 2016 as University Research Professor from the College of Law. She is co-author of the widely adopted law school textbook Products Liability and Safety: Cases and Materials (7th ed. 2015) (including the annual case supplement and Teacher's Manual). She is also a co-author of the leading multi-volume products liability treatise, Owen and Davis, Products Liability Law (4th ed. 2014) (West Publishing). Her articles have appeared in such journals as the Hasting Law Journal, Boston College Law Review, the University of Pittsburgh Law Review, the Wake Forest Law Review, and the Tennessee Law Review. Her recent work on federal preemption of state products liability laws has been cited by the United States Supreme Court.

She has been a visiting professor of law at the University of Texas School of Law, Boston College Law School, William and Mary College of Law and Wake Forest University School of Law. Dean Davis is quoted in the national press on subjects of products liability and mass tort litigation. She is a 1985 magna cum laude graduate of the Wake Forest University School of Law, where she served as Managing Editor of the Law Review, and a 1979 cum laude graduate of the University of Virginia. She is an elected member of the American Law Institute where she has served on the Members Consultative Groups for the Restatement (Third) of Torts and Aggregate Litigation Project.

Berry Global Healthcare has launched the PneumoHaler, a new lightweight, breath-actuated, multi-dose inhaler with a dose indicator for the effective management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Designed to provide a ready-to-use solution for new inhalation treatments, the PneumoHaler eliminates the need for pharmaceutical companies to develop their own platforms, enabling the delivery of faster-to-market solutions.

To achieve risk-based engineered structural designs that provide safety for life and property from tornadoes, sufficient knowledge of tornado wind speeds and wind flow characteristics is needed. Currently, sufficient understanding of the magnitude, frequency, and velocity structure of tornado winds remain elusive. Direct measurements of tornado winds are rare and nearly impossible to acquire, and the pursuit of in situ wind measurements can be precarious, dangerous, and even necessitating the development of safer and more reliable means to understand tornado actions. Remote-sensing technologies including satellite, aerial, lidar, and photogrammetric platforms, have demonstrated an ever-increasing efficiency for collecting, storing, organizing, and communicating tornado hazards information at a multitude of geospatial scales. Current remote-sensing technologies enable wind-engineering researchers to examine tornado effects on the built environment at various spatial scales ranging from the overall path to the neighborhood, building, and ultimately member and/or connection level. Each spatial resolution contains a unique set of challenges for efficiency, ease, and cost of data acquisition and dissemination, as well as contributions to the body of knowledge that help engineers and atmospheric scientists better understand tornado wind speeds. This paper examines the use of remote sensing technologies at four scales in recent tornado investigations, demonstrating the challenges of data collection and processing at each level as well as the utility of the information gleaned from each level in advancing the understanding of tornado effects.

The airborne system of unmanned aircraft is composed of two primary components: a platform and a sensor. Platforms include multi-rotor, fixed-wing, or transitional aircraft that vertically take-off and land (VTOL). Multi-rotor UAS have the benefit of hovering; fixed-wing have the benefit of using lift generated by the airfoil as opposed to thrust (power), thus providing longer flight endurance; VTOL aircraft can launch and land in smaller areas and have the ability to hover over an area.

UAS can carry a variety of inexpensive commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) payloads without requiring modification. Payloads can include, but are not limited to, mapping cameras, real-time high-definition (HD) video cameras, thermal-infrared sensors, multispectral cameras, Lidar sensors, and a variety of other data collection sensors (e.g., aerosol monitors; Table 2). Data resolution is a function of sensor lens, data capture rate, and flight altitude. Data streams can include video, digital images, and thermal images. Processed products can include orthomosaics, digital surface models, and time-series data.

Since 2016, UAS have been used as a tool in Alaska parks for a variety of physical and biological science related projects. The NPS UAS program has also supported all-hazard assignments, inter-agency projects, and continues to develop best practices for future UAS integration into parks to help managers determine safe, efficient, and effective ways to integrate UAS operations with park missions.

In Denali National Park and Preserve, multi-rotor UAS platforms have been used to map streams affected by mining activities for restoration and trail project planning, to generate elevation models for monitoring volumetric changes of mass wasting sites, and to create 3D models of historic districts to assess land instability due to permafrost melt, along with thermal imaging to identify ground temperatures. Denali National Park and Preserve has also used UAS to map permafrost and fire ecology sites with multi-spectral and thermal sensors to assess plant growth in burned areas, identify spatial patterns in permafrost thaw dynamics, and map elevation. UAS have also been used in partnership with the University of Alaska Fairbanks to map paleontological specimens in Denali National Park and Preserve and to conduct glacier mapping in Kenai Fjords National Park.

The NPS Inventory & Monitoring Program has conducted UAS surveys of the intertidal zone in Katmai and Lake Clark national parks and preserves in collaboration with Gulf Watch Alaska and the US Geological Survey-Alaska Science Center. The resulting data are being evaluated to assess intertidal species distribution and abundance and create multi-spectral orthomosaics for land cover and topographic change analysis along the coastline. A pilot project in Denali National Park and Preserve collected real-time video streams of nesting Canada jays to quantify chick health.

Periodic aerial surveys in the region provide a time series of spatially-explicit data to investigate factors influencing this successful and ongoing recovery. We integrated an ecological diffusion model that accounted for spatially-variable motility and density-dependent population growth, as well as multiple population epicenters, into a Bayesian hierarchical framework to help understand the factors influencing the success of this recovery.
