Conducting an experiment

I am wondering if there is a simple process for distributing experiment code to subjects.  The best I can come up with is using mail merge to email them the links.  But this seems cumbersome and also assumes I have a list of their emails.  Is there a better way?

For example, is there a way to get the system to generate something other than random strings for a code?
Or some way they can log into sophie first and be assigned to a session after they checked in?

Thanks.

Hi Elena,

there is not a really simple way.

You can edit the codes manually or using a script after they have been generated to use the approach that you propose.

An alternative would be to use the Mail API from SoPHIE Labs to send mails with SoPHIE. That way you could have a setup or admin sync script running before the real session starts which can send out an email for every participant.

Hi Collin, there is now a better way to deal with this problem, SoPHIE classroom.  The way this works is, you create your class there, and can upload the class list.  or alternatively you can create a list with the login IDs you want.  Participants log in through there and are automatically linked to the session you created.  This is in beta right now, so Achim can tell you whether this is available for you.

The problem with the other way is that codes have to be unique, so if you change them manually, you are risking creating a problem in case they are not unique.  So it’s not a very good way.

Hi Achim,

Sort of a follow-up to this: I know you can manually change participation codes one by one, is there a way to overwrite all participation codes at once? I have tried several things but cannot figure out the syntax to overwrite the correct variable. When uploading variables, there is the "pe;name;value;participantLabel[;type]"  guidance, I'm don't know how to fill this out correctly for that variable.

Thank you for your help,
Collin
