Earth Dance Staff and Sophomore Farmies:
Dean & I hope all is well. Thinking of you.
I thought I would forward an article I wrote for the St. Louis County employees' quarterly newsletter. EarthDance Farms is mentioned in there a few times. {:D
I know this drought and extreme heat has been tough on the plants (and farmers!). Dean & I have been watering twice a day to keep our plants green and growing., wee hours of the morning and just before sundown. We have our plants in the screenhouse in the backyard and throughout our landscaping at home. Thank God, we had some established shade trees for shelter for the plants while working on the rebuild of our greenhouse structure after the move 5 weeks ago. Deer populate the Defiance area, and nearby a black bear sighting has been reported by my son-in-law, so the greenhouse will need to be completed before taking the plants to Boone Hollow Farm. We have all summer ... Our personal tomato plants (4 from our Deanna Greens' greenhouse and 2 volunteers from our compose pile from last year's EarthDance vegetable scraps) and pepper plants are weaved into the front yard landscaping. I love it! Deanna Greens survived hail storms and Japanese beetles! {;D
I started on some garden art creations to sell at the market. We hope to get over to the farm soon and bring my vintage spoon garden signs for the herb garden or decor for the "new office". Cannot say how excited we are for EarthDance and their land purchase! The market guidebook is still being written. I do not forget, it just takes me awhile to finish projects with number of personal and work obligations.
Dean & I's 2nd wedding anniversary is today! He has secret dinner plans for us for tonight?! We postponed our trip north for another 3 weeks. I have been taking time off from work here an there to visit with my parents this past 2 months. Dad has hospice care to the house now, and Mom needs a break from time to time.
Enjoy the enrichment and sophomore meetings tonight!
Blessings always,
Anna Banana Gall
