In the fifteen years since the release of Matt Reaves' Cloverfield, there have been few viral marketing campaigns that have been so easy to get lost in. When the first teaser trailer for the film appeared online in the summer of 2007, it sparked months of internet sleuthing among fans in hopes of finding any information on this entirely unknown and secretly produced film as possible, hunting across a mysterious set of tie-in websites set within the world of Cloverfield. Now, one of these websites has come back online in what fans will no doubt hope heralds the approach of a new entry into the series.
While the "official" website doesn't reveal much - simply giving users to interact with cartoons of the brand's mascots representing the different flavors of the drink - the fact the site is now back online is perhaps the first real indication that development on a new installment into the Cloverfield anthology series is in fact underway - and perhaps one that may connect to the first film.
While it has now been confirmed that the Cloverfield monster arrived on Earth via a meteor, it has long been theorized that the beast lay dormant at the bottom of the ocean. Until the Slusho corporation went digging for its precious nectar, disturbing this particular kaiju and leading to its rampage. Now, with Slusho back online, have they decided to go digging again?
This was the actual site where a trailer was shown and it gives you the number 33287 to text cloverfield to on your mobile phone for a ringtone of the monster's roar and a wallpaper of a decimated Manhattan. This eventually turns out to be a Paramount number (people later receive material on Iron Man, Indiana Jones 4, Kung fu Panda and The Love Guru). [4]

Development began when producer J. J. Abrams started conceptualizing a new monster and enlisted Neville Page to design the creature, called Clover. In February 2007, the project was secretly greenlit by Paramount Pictures and produced by Abrams's Bad Robot Productions. Principal photography took place in Los Angeles and New York City in 2007. The project had several working titles, including Slusho, Cheese, and Greyshot. As part of a viral marketing campaign, a teaser trailer was released ahead of screenings of Transformers (2007) without a title. The final title was revealed in a second teaser trailer attached to screenings of Beowulf (2007). With limited pre-release details, it garnered online speculation, including forums and websites dedicated to uncovering hidden information about the film. Several tie-ins, including a prequel manga series, were released as part of the marketing campaign.
The studio had kept knowledge of the project secret from the online community, a cited rarity due to the presence of scoopers that follow upcoming films. The controlled release of information on the film has been observed as a risky strategy, which could succeed like The Blair Witch Project (1999) or disappoint like Snakes on a Plane (2006), the latter of which had generated online hype but failed to attract large audiences.[32]
The sudden appearance of the untitled teaser for Cloverfield, and limited details available in the lead up to the film's release fueled wide media speculation over the film's plot, with many expecting it to be an adaptation of an existing property. Among the possibilities reported on, The Star Ledger suggested that the film could be based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft, or a new entry in the Godzilla series.[33] The Guardian reported the possibility of a spin-off to Abrams' television show Lost,[34] and a misinterpretation of the trailer's line "It's alive!" as "It's a lion!" led USA Today to speculate on a live-action adaptation of Japanese animated series Voltron.[28][35] IGN and Time Out suggested that the film would feature an alien called "The Parasite", with that rumored to be the working title of the film.[36][37] Elsewhere online, Slusho and Colossus had been discussed as other possible titles,[38] as well as Monstrous,[39] although this was dispelled by Abrams at ComicCon.[6]
The viral marketing campaign drew the attention of alternate reality game enthusiasts, hoping to uncover information about the film hidden online. Members of the forums at argn.com and unfiction.com have investigated the background of the film, with the "1-18-08" section at Unfiction generating over 7,700 posts in August 2007. The members have studied photographs on the film's official site, potentially related MySpace profiles,[40] and the Comic-Con teaser poster for the film.[41] A popular piece of fan art posited that the monster was a mutated humpback whale.[28]
Tonight, the rabbit hole that is Cloverfield's viral marketing just got exponentially deeper and more bizarre. A digital manga comic book has turned up online, and while the Japanese panels have yet to be fully translated, the Bad Robot logo (J.J. Abrams production company) and a 2008 copyright for Paramount Pictures appear on the last page. To access the comic, go here and click the small comic panel in the center with a face and the word "Kishin." This will take you to another screen. Click the blue button at the top and this will bring you to the digital comic.

Please direct your browser to the link to WSUDL, because this image is worth exploring in detail. If you click "Open Image in a Viewer" at the link, you will be able to magnify this high-quality image. In the online image at the link, a DC-3 aircraft is visible about 2/3 of the way along the building. Likewise, another DC-3 can be seen in front of the hangar building north of the manufacturing facility, and "Clover Field" is visible on the roof. Also, the J.E. Granger hangar is visible as the last hangar to the north and the roof is so marked. "Mutual Aircraft" is painted over the door on the hangar just to the left of Granger's.
PLEASE NOTE: As of the upload date of this page, the Web site of the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register has been online eight years, since May 4, 2005. It presents over 1,000 pages of pilot biographies and other topics, which have been added incrementally over the years. The new sites have less content now, but they will grow over the coming years. Additions and changes to the sites are always posted at the "WHAT'S NEW ON THE SITE?" links on each site. Please bookmark the "What's New on the Site?" pages and come back regularly.
May, 2013 Coincident with the release of this Web site online, the City of Santa Monica, CA has voted to charge landing fees to all aircraft. A blog that follows such matters is at the link and cites on May 1, 2013 the following, "The general aviation industry in the U.S. lost a key battle last night when the Santa Monica city council voted to impose higher landing fees, not just on transient aircraft but on all aircraft that use the airport. Starting August 1 [2013], even a Cessna 172 based at Santa Monica airport (SMO) flown by a local student or rental pilot will be assessed $10.96 for each landing. For training operations, that means a student pilot will end up paying $10.96 for every landing or touch-and-go."
February 2, 2017 The City of Santa Monica and the FAA reached an agreement whereby the Santa Monica Municipal Airport would remain open until December 31, 2028. The article below was published in the February, 2017 online issue of the AOPA Pilot magazine at the link. I include the entire text in the box below in case the Web version becomes archived. The Web version has photographs. This is a positive step, time-wise, to protect the life of the airport. However, shortening the runway will abridge the types of aircraft that safely can use it.
