Christ is from the Greek word Christos. This word means to “anoint”
with oil by smearing. The idea was that anything smeared with oil
became endowed with magical powers. The magical powers within the
oils are transmitted to the object or person.

Messiah in Hebrew is Moshiakh. This word simply means “anointed”.
Anointed with oil in particular. Special oil was made and then kept
at the Tabernacle with access only by a priest and can only be applied
upon G-d’s request. This was to insure that the oil, when applied,
was confirmation of G-d’s ordination of the object or person (Exodus
30). The oil did not possess any special powers.

This oil was placed on the Tabernacle, utensils, High Priests,
Prophets, and Kings. Any thing anointed with this oil, by direction
of G-d, became Messiah – anointed. Why? Because Messiah is not a
person but rather a spirit. The spirit behind the Torah. Anything
Messiahed was to exemplify and was an attribute of Messiah. It was
set aside and meant to serve the purpose of the spirit of Messiah
(Torah) to facilitate and bring righteousness into the world via
obedience, faith, and love for G-d on our part.
