We inherit physical genes from our parents and they from their parents
and so and so on right back to Adam and Eve.

Our physical strengths and weaknesses are inherited from generations
past. Yet we still are unique in our entirety. For just as our genes
are inherited there are genes that have not been affected by previous
generations and have been left in tact to ensure a uniqueness of our
physical character. Though we maybe similar, we are not exact
duplicate of anyone else – past, present, or future.

Likewise we inherit soul “genes” from our predecessors. Part of our
soul is a collection of past generations. We carry a part of them
with us. Strength and weaknesses are passed down. We have the same
potential to succeed and fail as our predecessors in their Torah
walk. We are still unique though and as such have our individual
responsibility to succeed and walk out our faith.

One of our missions in life is to improve upon our predecessors
failing and continue their successful Torah walk with G-d. By doing
this we are honoring our parents and atoning (correcting) for them.
We also setup our children for yet a better walk in Torah and with G-d.
