A gaming keyboard is a special type of keyboard that's designed with quick actuation time and other features that can help enhance gaming performance. Gaming keyboards are available in different form factors, which refer to the size of the keyboard and the number of keys it has. You can also find smaller keyboards that give you more room on your gaming mouse pad for mouse movement and comfortable keyboard position to reach all the keys and buttons.

Like most gaming and streaming gear, the cost of gaming keyboards can vary depending on the model you choose. You can find more affordable gaming keyboards for around $50, but a premium gaming keyboard with the best mechanical switches can cost upwards of $200 or more. Sometimes you can save money with a gaming keyboard and mouse bundle, but you can expect to pay somewhere in that range for the average gaming keyboard.

There are wired and wireless gaming keyboards, including LIGHTSPEED wireless and Bluetooth models. For mobile gaming, Bluetooth keyboards are a popular choice due to compatibility, while most people choose a wireless gaming keyboard for PC setups. That being said, the switches are the important thing to look at when it comes to gaming keyboards. And we offer many, from mechanical GX tactile, clicky and linear to low-profile mechanical GL tactile, clicky, linear, and other options.

The standard keyboards you buy at most stores use rubber dome switches, while many gaming keyboards use mechanical switches. The switches you have in your keyboard determine how fast you can press keys, how keypresses feel, and how long your keyboard lasts. If you're looking for the best keyboard for gaming, you typically want to go with mechanical switches over rubber dome switches.

A Logitech G gaming keyboard has features that are built for gamers while having many standard features found on a regular keyboard. The same is true for gaming mice. The best part is that gaming keyboards and mice are usually designed with ergonomics in mind, so they make excellent daily drivers for office work.

There are a handful of different gaming keyboard sizes you can choose from based on your hand size, desk space, and preferences. Full-size keyboards have all the standard keys, including the number pad and arrow keys. Tenkeyless (TKL) keyboards don't have the 10-key number pad that you'll find on most keyboards, but they do have arrow keys.

Lighting: Lighting doesn't just make your keyboard look cool, it also helps you see the keys you're pressing when you're gaming or typing in the dark. And, lighting can be programmed with LIGHTSYNC RGB to color code your keys to stand out. This is great for games with special key commands.

Whether it's a gaming keyboard or a gaming headset, you can't go wrong with any of the gear in the Logitech G gaming gear lineup. We have affordable options if you're looking for an entry-level keyboard, as well as mechanical keyboards with some of the fastest switches and sleekest backlighting.

A 60 percent keyboard is one of the smallest, most compact keyboard layouts you can find. In addition to lopping off the Numpad like most TKL boards (including the G Pro X) do, the Pro X 60 further compacts itself by removing the navigation keys like Page Up, Page Down, etc., the arrow keys, and the row of function keys along the top.

If you need any of these buttons, you can access most of them by holding Fn and pressing one of the keys on the regular keyboard. Small indicators on the front of the keys show you which buttons map to what function, which is pretty typical for most 60 percent keyboards. However, much of what we liked about the original G Pro X TKL were the extra features that Logitech added on top of the basics. Surely, those would have to be cut to fit into such a low profile. Right? Not necessarily.

One of my favorite keyboard features also happens to be one that most keyboards cut first when they need to save space: the volume wheel. The Pro X TKL had one in the top right corner, easily accessible with my right hand. At first, I was disappointed (if not surprised) to see that this feature was gone on the Pro X 60.

If you want a wireless keyboard with a built-in number pad, we recommend the Logitech K585 Slim Multi-Device Wireless Keyboard, which is more compact than many other models with number pads. Like our top pick, the K585 is inexpensive, offers a comfortable typing experience, and has a battery that will last for years. The K585 also provides a convenient stand for a phone or tablet, a feature that none of our other picks have. But this keyboard lacks a backlight, and it can connect to and swap between only two devices.

Wireless keyboards can help you declutter your desk, allow you to type more comfortably on your phone or tablet, or let you use a computer or a TV streaming device from your couch. Desktops, laptops, tablets, phones, smart TVs, and streaming devices all use Bluetooth, and the best Bluetooth keyboards can switch easily between multiple devices.

It has a compact, convenient, laptop-like layout. The K380s has all the most frequently used keys, including function, media, and small arrow keys. It lacks a number pad, but as a result it takes up much less room on a desk and is small and light enough to slip in a bag and take with you.

Numerous Wirecutter staffers have used the Logitech K380 for years, since we first made it our top pick in 2015. The K380 is no longer our top pick because it was discontinued and replaced by the very similar Pebble Keys 2 K380s in September 2023, but we expect both models to hold up similarly over time.

It has small arrow keys and lacks a built-in number pad. If you need a full-size number pad or larger arrow keys, consider a separate number pad to use with our pick or check out our full-size or upgrade picks, both of which have standard-size arrow keys.

You can choose how your keyboard feels. NuPhy offers several switch options: tactile Brown switches with a satisfying bump, clicky Blue switches that issue a crisp clicking sound, and linear Red switches that offer less feedback but feel smoother. The Air75 and Air96 both support hot-swap, which means you can remove the included switches and put in any other low-profile switch without having to replace the whole keyboard. (You can read more about switches in our introductory guide to mechanical keyboards.)

They have shorter battery life but can also work in wired mode. NuPhy doubled the battery capacity for the Air75 V2 over its predecessor, and the company claims the V2 will last between 35 and 57 hours with the lights on and up to 220 hours with its lights off. NuPhy claims the Air96 will last between 35 and 120 hours with its lights on and up to 220 hours with the lights off. We like that both models can work in wired mode when the battery runs low or dies.

Neither the Satechi SM1 nor the Keychron K3 Max feel as nice to type on as our upgrade pick, and the SM1 lacks hot-swap. They also have shorter battery life, and the edge of their spacebars sits at an uncomfortable angle.

We've tested over 220 keyboards, including more than 30 manufactured by Logitech. Logitech produces a wide range of keyboards for specific uses, from high-performance gaming options and efficient office models to portable boards designed for mobile use. Whether you opt for a top-of-the-line mechanical unit or a simple scissor switch model, Logitech produces high-quality options at different prices. Below is our list of the best general and best Logitech gaming keyboards we've tested.

The best Logitech keyboard we've tested is the Logitech G715. While this keyboard happens to be one of the best Logitech gaming keyboards, it's also a standout choice for work and everyday browsing. It also offers extra features, including dedicated media keys and a volume knob for easy audio control while gaming, watching content, or listening to music. It's a TenKeyLess model, so it doesn't take up as much space as a full-size unit, and it has a charming soft pastel color scheme that looks very different from the usual grey and black gaming options. Its standout design doesn't stop there. It comes with a very comfortable wrist rest shaped like a cloud, and you can purchase separate candy-colored keycaps and top plates if you want to add splashes of color to your setup.

Under the hood, this keyboard uses mechanical switches in your choice of tactile, linear, or clicky varieties, providing a more premium-feeling typing experience than other options. It also has PBT keycaps that feel nice to type on and aren't prone to developing a shiny look like those on some cheaper models. It's also a wireless keyboard, so it won't clutter up your desk with cables, and you can connect it via Bluetooth or use its included USB receiver for split-second latency while gaming. If you're interested in a similar but even smaller compact 60% model that frees up even more space on your desk for dynamic mouse movements and comes with a carrying case, we recommend checking out the Logitech G PRO X 60.

At its price point, the Logitech MX Keys S is the best Logitech keyboard for most people if you aren't concerned about gaming. This is Logitech's flagship office unit, and they've paid close attention to the details. The chiclet-style keycaps have a nice indent to ensure your keystrokes strike directly in the center, helping you avoid typos, while its low profile lays pretty flat on your desk, so you don't have to bend your wrists upwards to reach the keys. This keyboard is a great choice if you're used to typing on a laptop, as it uses stable and responsive-feeling scissor switches that offer a similar feel. It also has white backlighting that you can set to increase or decrease in brightness according to the lighting conditions around you, so your keys are always clearly visible at any time of day.

This keyboard offers great wireless connectivity options and has a long battery life of up to ten days with the backlighting on or five months with it off. You can pair the keyboard with up to three devices using Bluetooth or the included LOGI BOLT USB receiver, which also works with select Logitech mice. That said, if you have a more compact desk or need a portable option, Logitech also makes a smaller version called the Logitech MX Keys Mini. This more compact version doesn't include a wireless USB receiver, so it's best if your device has Bluetooth.
