I have flashed  Sonoff TH16 (circa 2017 June ) with latest Tasmota and got no signs of life ( no AP no LED )
Reflashed original firmware - same - no signs of life !
Using PL2303HA ( 3.3V capable ) via external 5V powered HUB or straight from PCs USB

In same time flashing Sonoff POW with the same firmware, same USB port and same USB dongle is a success !

Looks like my TH16 still alive, because I was able to Blink LED, when flashing very simple blink sketch in Arduino IDE , so it is not bricked or fried !

Cannot wrap my mind what da heck is going on ? Please help

When reflash stock Sonoff firmware this is what I see in serial console:

ets Jan  8 2013,rst cause:1, boot mode:(3,6)

load 0x40100000, len 2592, room 16
tail 0
chksum 0xf3

2nd boot version : 1.7(5d6f877)
SPI Speed : 40MHz
SPI Mode : DOUT
SPI Flash Size & Map: 8Mbit(512KB+512KB)
jump to run user1 @ 1000

and it keeps going indefinitely.

Did you follow the upgrade path of the various stages? If not erase flash and try again

For both POW and TH16 I have used Tasmota Web install - it does it all for you.
POW works fine, TH16 not

I’m not saying that you are wrong but are you sure that it takes you through all of the stages? If the device was 2017 you’d have to go via 5.14, 6.7.1, 7.2, 8.5.1 and 9.1 to upgrade if you hadn’t previously upgraded.

Sorry Phil I just realized that instead of public I've sent you a private message.
Since 2017 this device was flashed with stock Sonoff firmware ( as of 2017 )  ans just sitting on the shelf until few days ago. Same as Sonoff POW.
Web Installer also does erase., also I have done erase using esptools, I can try again and flash latest Tasmota.

So you think it is really necessary to flash and reflash every single version of Tasmota since 2017 ? I thought flashing latest will be perfectly fine.

It’s OK if you erase the flash first
