Hi,

Today I've tried to do OTA upgrade from generic 2.0.1 to Tasmota. Everything went fine until step where I should upload minimal tasmota firmware. I did not RTFM before ;-) so I tried with regular firmware and received size error. At this step I should go back to manual/FAQ and find that I should use minimal but I'we went to configure and changed type to SNOFF 4CH (I belive it was no 27). Since then only thing that Sonoff does is turn on Relay1 together with led.
I've tried to connect with FTDI serial interface but putty shows crap (not text but non-unicode characters - see attached screenshot). Tried with different speed, transmision controls and no luck.
esptool complains about bad header (with random values). I was able to program ESP8266 with this FTDI so it should be  fine.

Worst case scenario would be replace ESP8285 with another one but first I would like to unbrick this one. Can you please guide me how I can try to recover this bricked one?

Hi,

From the picture i would say that you have the wrong communication settings.
The serial interface is set to 115200 bps except for Sonoff Dual and the Sonoff RF Bridge where it is set to 19200 bps. (8N1)

Hi,

This was my first idea - but tried every speed from 9600 till 115200 (with 8n1 with all options of flow control). With increasing speed I can only see that screen flows faster.

Can you still access the webui. The size error isn't fatal it just reverts to previous version. Press the button for 40;seconds to reset it and you should then be able to reflash OTA.

The press for 40 seconds should reset it. You can then do the multipress sequence to open up a hot spot or use WPS.

Have you read this page? The 4 Ch Pro is difficult to get into programme mode. It took me about 10 attempts https://github.com/arendst/Sonoff-Tasmota/wiki/Sonoff-4CH-and-4CH-Pro
I think it should be R1 that you press though

Hi,

Been there many times :-)

Tried with GP0-GND connection too. Will try again tomorrow, and I will solder goldpins to board too, as for now it's just UTP plugged.
I havn't try via ArduinoIDE but I think anyway it should push some human-redable characters via serial console.

I use the nodemcu-flasher to flash the standard bin if I'm having problems and then use button presses to gain access.

Hi,

I've tried this tool too, but I did not detct board (but pretty sure it was without gp0-gnd connection). But I will play tomorrow again.
If you have 4ch can you try to connect with serial to see what it dumps on console? If it trash similar to mine, or some more handy trash :-)

Hi,

I did another attempt to reflash but with direct gnd-gp0 chip connection and it did work. So seems something wrong with my gp0 pad.
With reflashed tasmota fw it shows proper data over serial too

Thx for help

Marcin

Will look in morning
