Unexpected behaviour with tasmota devices

I have many smart plugs, lights etc, running Tasmota (nothing below 9.1).

I use dnsmasq on a Pi as dhcp/dns server.

When I look at the leases, none of the Tasmota devices seem to have an ID field, while the other devices on the network (PC, various Pi devices, NAS, mobile phone etc) all do.

Example:

1627995995 ff:a8:22:27:7d:79 192.168.1.28 upstairstv 01:ff:a8:22:27:7d:79

1627996518 b4:e6:2d:60:8b:1c 192.168.1.37 bookshelf *

Here. the network enabled TV upstairs has passed a client id in the DHCP options, whereas the bookshelf smart socket hasn't.

While this isn't a problem per se, it does give me issues when trying to parse the dnsmasq.leases file for processing the data.
Is there anything I (or someone else) can do to change this? I will probably just ignore the last field in the file, but it seems 'off' somehow....

Have you tried setting hostname in the commands? Don’t know if it will do what you want but worth a try.

Hi Phil.

Device name, hostname and friendlyname1 are set in all cases. It may not be supported in the DHCP code used by Tasmota. From memory, if the server sends back a hostname, I don't think Tasmota uses it.

That’s what I thought. I’ve named my devices in the router to make it easier to spot devices.

I’ve also allocated groups of static IP addresses for each room in the house so that there’s some logic to IP addresses when I want to find items

Yes, same here, although mine are named in dnsmasq, as my router's DHCP is disabled, and I've opted for functional grouping of IP addresses rather than room-centric ones.
In the Arduino Ethernet library, it does pass the client id through, but not sure what lwip does. I will have a dig around in the source and see what turns up.
