I have just compiled Tasmota adding support for SSL, but when I try to upload using WiFi, I am informed that it’s not enough space available. I only need support for MQTT via SSL, HLW8012, GPIO, rules and BMx280. Any tips about what I safely can comment out? I can, of course, connect using wires, but that’s a major job since I cannot easily access the devices I need to control.

Best regards

Just an update:
Device is ESP8266 / ESP12-F, and I have tried the image you sent me by mail,. and I still get the same error. As a last resort I can, off course, use my screw driver and soldering gun to rewire the PCB for manual upload (should have thought about it when I made the PCB), but I have tried to upload code rrom the network before. Would it help to first start uploading a minimal cofiguration and the try agin with a larger one? My own image is so far a bit larger than the one you sent me (uncompressed, that is), but I have not started digging into howto really reduce the size.

Most 8266s don't have enough free space to upload a bin without going through Minimal first

Have recompiled, and size is now 586 Kb, which works OK if go through Minimal First. I'm using MQTT_TLS and it seems to work fine, though I get a warning that MFLN is not supported by my provider. Don''t know if that is important or what it means. What matters for me is that I'm now able to use an external provider as MQTT server, so I can access my devices where ever I am. Might have to buld different .bin files, depending on what type of sensors I am using, but I did not strip away that much.

Thank you so much for the advices I got from you!

All the best from

If you use something like openHAB or Home Assistant they have secure cloud access to your devices via apps or browsers (and you don't need to use TLS on the devices). I only share the data that I want to (not all the MQTT traffic) and it means I can, not only see the data, but control things as well through the same UI I have at home. I also have bluetooth, ZigBee, (unflashed) Shelly and other devices not using MQTT which I can read data from and control using openHAB bindings.

MFLN is explained here
