Using VSCode for compiing

I am NOT a programming guru, but have just downloaded latest version of Tasmota to my PC in Oslo. Tried to compile ESP32-C3, and got rtons of error messagers. Turned out that the trix is to start compile for env:tasmota, and then it's no probelm to compile other modules.
Suppose this is basic stuff for most of you, but it was NOT for me.
