I was upgrading an esp8266 module that had tasmota 6.6.0.

I upgraded to 6.7.1.

It just repeats that sequence.  I will now have to try the other method to flash the firmware through the serial port.

What happened?

You can’t do it with just Minimal you have to upgrade to a full version on the way

.> Do not install only tasmota-minimal.bin but upgrade to full, working firmware. Linked -lite.bin binaries will do the job.

The update path shows 7.2.0 to 8.5.1.  But the above statement "Do not install minimal" is confusing.  What is minimal for?  The serial log shows that the update 8.5.1 was successful, but it does not boot.  What difference would it have made if I was running 7.2.0 "full" vs "minimal" when I update to 8.5.1 minimal ?

"Do not install only tasmota-minimal.bin but upgrade to full, working firmware "

That implies that minimal is somehow "not working" or defective or not operational.  If this is the case, then ALL ALL ALL "minimal" versions should have their "Firmware update" button disabled / removed. !!!

Because Minimal doesn’t do a full install just enough to do an OTA update – minimal is only there to free enough memory space to do an update – it isn’t operational firmware. It won’t create the necessary parameter tables so when you update to 8.5 it has nothing to translate
