Hi there

I've got a few Tasmota devices running now
4 x Sonoff S26 switches, 5 x Sonoff basic switches, 5 x SWA1 switches, 1 RF bridge plus a couple more ESP32 dev boards
All running Tasmota 10.0.0.0 or above

Anyway, I've been experiencing a random device losing connection to the WIFI
I have set all the devices to static IP's, as I initially suspected the wifi router
I have setup a second access point as well, on the same wired network
So,
- All devices set to static IP
- All devices have both primary & secondary wifi AP's set

So, like once a week, a random device drops off the network, and I have to power cycle it to get it to re-attach (which they always do) - the last two instances where Sonoff S26's, but not convinced it's restricted to those

I've setup node red with a dashboard page to show a list of all the devices, with timestamp of most recent message, so I can easily verify when the device last communicated - it doesn't seem to correspond to any known event

It's like it's giving up trying to connect after it's 'lost' it's connection, until it's power cycled

Any settings I could try to improve the reconnection behaviour?

Regards

I suspect that you are reaching the 32 device limit that a lot of routers have. You’ve listed 17 devices. The routers tend to drop devices that haven’t been active for a while.

I struggled with this for ages. My devices would randomly drop off the network, then magically return after a couple of days. Sometimes they wouldn't reappear even after a reboot. I had to let them sort themselves out. I had a feeling something needed to timeout. I also had issue when a device would connect to an AP at the other end of the house with a weak signal, rather than the AP right next to it with 100% signal ! :-)
Lots of people say "Tasmota doesn't play well with mesh networks" but I've never found a good explanation why. I do have a 4 AP mesh network, from Ubiquiti, with about 100 devices. The term "mesh" is also misused a lot and can mean many things. :-)

I can tell you what I did, but I don't know which specific thing fixed it, but its much more reliable now ... I rarely lose a device now.
  • I created a separate dedicated IoT WiFi network, on 2.4G only for just my Tasmota devices.
  • I have some settings on my Access Points that say: "Enable Legacy Support - Enable 802.11g protection mechanisms for legacy devices, which will reduce throughput and increase latency. We recommended setting up a separate WLAN network specifically for legacy devices". I enabled this for the SSID.
  • I have these options enabled on all devices:
    • SetOption57 -  "Wi-Fi network re-scan every 44 minutes with alternate to +10dB stronger signal if detected"
    • SetOption56 - "Wi-Fi network scan to select strongest signal on restart"
    • SetOption41 - I have it set to gratuitous ARP every 30 seconds
I run the latest firmware on all my devices, and ping all of them every 5 minutes, from a monitoring system (Pandora FMS) which alerts me when they are down.

I hope this helps.

Jon.
