Hi,

I have a business scenario which I hope that someone can assist with.

I am in the Renewable Energy industry and have used a few sonoff devices in my automation of clients premises.

I would like to find out if someone can assist or advise as to the following use case example:

My client has a 8kW (max output) inverter solution.

Existing scenario:
  1. Client switches on his geyser via sonoff device through a contactor
  2. Load on inverter now 4kW (50%)
  3. Sonoff devices Scheduling switches on pool pump and heatpump and adds a further 3.5kW load to the inverter
  4. Inverter load now 7.5kW out of 8kW
  5. Client switches on a kettle of 2kW on site taking the load to 9.5kW
  6. Inverter overloads
Proposed Solution:

  1. Client switches on his geyser via sonoff device through a contactor
  2. Load on inverter now 4kW (50%)
  3. Sonoff devices Scheduling switches on pool pump and heatpump and adds a further 3.5kW load to the inverter
  4. Inverter load now 7.5kW out of 8kW
  5. Client switches on a kettle of 2kW on site
  6. BEFORE the kettle load is switched on, the currently running devices are queried as to their total draw and then rules are implemented
  7. Non-essential load is switched off (geyser) for duration of 'X' so that load on inverter is reduced.
  8. after "x" has expired then geyser is switched back on.
Basically I want to know if this is possible and find out thoughts and suggestions as to how to implement this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Quintin

You would need to use something like openHAB or Node-Red to limit the load to something like 6kW and some sort of priority sequence to load shed. If you can persuade them to use Google to voice activate the kettle you could pre-empt the overload and only allow the switch to operate after you’ve created enough overhead.
