We have been using Sonobus for the university electro-acoustic ensemble I direct. It works great, my students appreciate the easy to use GUI, and we love that it runs as a plugin. Sometimes we perform using a local area network without an internet connection. Since we cannot connect to the default connection server (aoo.sonobus.net) without internet access, what would be the best approach. Is connecting to a raw address, using that computer as a server like with JackTrip, the best option?

Hi Robert,

Have you tried the "direct connection" section outlined in the user guide?

I believe that you can use your local addresses and the router can connect you without going out to the internet first.

Best,
David

Thanks, David and Jesse for your responses. I will try them out with my students next semester.

The standalone version also runs its own connection server on port 10999, all you need to do is specify the local LAN IP address of one computer in the “connection server” field on all of your systems on the private group page at the bottom. So if your IP address on one computer is 192.168.1.2 (for example), enter:
into the connection server field on all of the SonoBus’s running in your network.

Then both sides you want to connect will never hit the internet at all for any purpose.

There are a few other ways, but this is the easiest, as long as you have one standalone SonoBus in the group.

That has moved in the latest UI to the “dots” menu in the top right of the connect screen. This was one of the other methods I didn’t mention because it is generally just a tremendous pain to use compared to the group methods using your own connection server from a standalone SB.
