Anyone trying to port S4048 drivers to SONiC?

Hi Nelson,

We will look into the S5248F-ON pmon crash. Can you provide the output of the `show version` command?

The S4248FBL-ON and S4048-ON do not support SONiC.

Thanks,

Jeff

PS -- Sorry if you got this message twice; my initial response to the Google Group got bounced.

SONIC is based on Broadcom SAI and SAI does not support the StrataDNX
platform. Broadcom plans to integrate StrataDNX into SAI but there is no
ETA yet.

Hi Stefan,

Ok thanks, good to know.
So S4048 is based in Strata XGS (Trident 2)  and S4248 is based in Strata DNX (Qumran).

S4048 would be great to have it with SONiC as it is used for ToRs.

Yes sorry i only mean the S3248. S4048 should be possible to add at
least technically.

Yes, it is technically possible for basic operation.

However, I think that we need support from Dell for various points, such

 Hi Jeff,

I have installed latest build #191 on S5248F-ON, but pmon docker still exits.
It seems that pmon deamons get SIGTERM, starting at xcvrd.
If I comment that one, then it is psud, ledd or syseepromd that get SIGTERM or SIGABRT.

However, the i2c devices are registered ok.

Nelson, we're not seeing the issue on our switch when loading recent builds like 197. Is there any config loaded on the switch? What kind of media are inserted?

CCing Srideep -- any other command output you'd like to see?

Hi Jeff,  Srideep,

I had build #191. I've installed build #197 and pmon stays up now.
Anyway, xcvrd still has some trouble and it doesn't load the media presence or eeprom.

In attach the media inserted (log from OS10) and sonic version / eeprom (build #197).
Also the log requested with a pmon restart.

Thanks!

Nelson Reia

Hi Nelson-

Do try below commands to identify why xcvrd crashes

  1. Open a terminal with ssh  and run show logging -f | grep pmon
  2. service  pmon restart

You can check or share the logs seen in point 1). Also do you have any specific media inserted ?

Thanks

Seems I chose a bad time to buy a dozen Dell switches with the internton of running SONiC!

I have what I assume is the same problem as Nelson, pmon/xcvrd is dead and my ports are stuck lights-on with no SFPs recognised.

Any help appreciated.

Hi Aled,

Please file an issue here: https://github.com/azure/sonic-buildimage/issues/

The tech dump (as described in the issue template) will help in debugging the issue you’re seeing. It will provide relevant info about logs, the version of SONiC you’re running, any stored core dumps, etc.

We likely need to update some of our platform code as APIs may have changed in SONiC since we initially onboarded the platform.

Thanks,

Jeff
