Team,

Thanks for joining today’s SONiC community meeting. Some quick notes as below:

  1. In today’s meeting, we went through the proposed feature list for 202111 release.
    1. For each feature owner, please help to identify the reviewers for your feature and get your HLD ready to be reviewed by the community.
    2. For each feature, we added two more test related ETAs.  These are something that we want to adopt in 202111 release to improve the release quality and smooth the PR review
    3. BRCM features are skipped in today’s meeting. @BRCM team, please help to identify the reviewer and fulfil the ETA info. You can little r me with the updated info.
    4. For “SONiC management repo  Python3 compliance” feature, suggest to discuss the detail plan in test subgroup
    5. For “Show running enhancement”, should pay attention on the potential conflict with current SONiC management framework
  2. Team also reviewed the automatic tech support HLD https://github.com/Azure/SONiC/pull/818. Thanks Nvidia team for bring this in

DHCP relay IPv6 support

Also, currently DHCP relay is enabled only based on the Type in the METADATA and it must be ‘ToRRouter’. We will remove this restriction and will integrate it with copp manager so user can decide if to have DHCP relay or not regardless of the device type

1) sonic-platform-daemons/sonic-xcvrd: Add a new subprocess to subscribe CMIS diag requests and either update DIAG control or post the test result to the RedisDB.

System Ready Enhancements

Today there is no easy way to know when the device is ready in terms of control/dataplane. The change allows declaration of System ready (Syslog/CLI) when all the services(dockers+host) are up and ready. Also define a framework for each service to declare itself ready based on their application criteria.

Routed sub-interface naming convention

Linux kernel has a limitation of 15 character interface name size, modify the sub interface naming convention to keep it in short format (e.g. Eth100.1234, or Po100.1234). This naming change for subinterfaces will kept it uniform across the entire SONiC subsystem (config, show, and in all dbs) for the subinterfaces. DB migrator scripts are enhanced for the name conversion during the upgrade.

BRCM

No

SNMPd Enhancements

Enable ipv6 snmpd support. Generate coldStart/warmStart trap based on reboot reason to differentiate. Removed default SNMP community public for security. Add strerror to SNMP file open failure. There is a possibility for snmpd try to open a device file (for reading statistics) which is already deleted by other applications.
