Hello DASH Open Source Community – thanks for your time over the last few weeks.  We had a lot of work occur over the time period, please see this link DASH/DPU/SmartSwitch Weekly Review for full details. 

 

For the period of April 23 – May 13, 2026 we showed very high activity with 62 PRs created and 45 PRs merged across 9 repositories. The 72.6% merge rate, 3 PR/day creation velocity, and 2.1 PR/day merge velocity reflect a busy sprint focused on continued emphasis on HA quality, DPU lifecycle operations, and scalable DASH enablement.

 

Highlights

• Meeting Cadence and Scheduling: clarified the meeting schedule, noting the group skipped the first Wednesday of the month for a break.  The meeting around Memorial Day to be determined.
• Discussion of Notable PRs and Technical Updates: highlighted several notable PRs and technical changes, including contributions from Liat, Prince, Jing, Michal, Lawrence, and Prabhat, with Michael and Mircea providing additional technical context.
• Backend IP Route Rule: described a PR by Liat adding a route rule for backend IP for PL redirect, which was needed for their platform to handle inbound route rules for packets to the DPU.
• HA HLD and DPU Pairing Updates: Prince merged an update for Jing involving a new field and requirement in HA HLD, and Changrong added support for pairing a new DPU with a standalone in-flight. 
• Floating NIC Test Addition: Michael contributed a test for floating NIC steady state and planned shutdown, which Michael explained as adding floating NIC scenarios to HA topologies for both steady state and planned shutdown traffic.
• ZMQ Management VRF Test: A utility test was added by NextHop to exercise the gNMI-ZMQ path with management VRF enabled, addressing a previously uncovered test path.
• ENI OID Mapping and DPU Counters: Lawrence contributed PRs to enable counter collection by OID lookup in the SWSS repo and added DPU counters and DB virtual path handling in the GNMI sub-repo.
• ZMQ Socket Timeout Fix: Prabhat addressed an issue where leaving the ZMQ socket in a bad state after a timeout could cause the OrchAgent to crash, implementing a fix in the build image to reset the socket on timeout.
• gNMI Client Placement and Collaboration: Mircea raised a question about the merging and placement of the gNMI client, with Michael explaining ongoing efforts to integrate it into the appropriate Docker container and both agreeing to collaborate on testing and implementation.
• Client Placement Challenges: Michael explained difficulties in fitting the gNMI client into the management or PTF Docker containers, noting that its current placement in sonic utilities is not ideal and that sonic management Docker was suggested as an alternative.
• Collaboration Plan: Mircea agreed to attempt integration from their side and share results, with both Michael and Mircea planning to synchronize efforts and communicate via email or messaging platforms.
• Consensus on Placement: Mircea confirmed with the group that there were no objections to placing the gNMI client in sonic management, referencing a prior suggestion from Prince Sunny, and Michael confirmed the lack of opposition.
• HA Test Modules and Future Work: Murali asked Michael about the status of HA test modules, with Michael confirming that 8 modules have been committed and a 9th is under review.
• DASH Architecture Walkthrough and Community Goals: Arham requested a walkthrough of the DASH architecture and discussed understanding the community's goals, with Kristina agreeing to follow up via email.
• Preparation of Inbound Routing Examples and Additional Testing: Michal updated the group on preparing routing examples for Inbound routing, planning to share diagrams and enable further testing.
• Routing Example Preparation: Michal is preparing examples and diagrams for involved routing, referencing a recent meeting and planning to share these resources early next week.
• Michal indicated that the new examples will facilitate additional tests.
