Painting is a visual art, which is characterized by the practice of applying paint, pigment, color or other medium to a solid surface (called the "matrix" or "support"). The medium is commonly applied to the base with a brush, but other implements, such as knives, sponges, and airbrushes, may be used.

In art, the term "painting" describes both the act and the result of the action (the final work is called "a painting"). The support for paintings includes such surfaces as walls, paper, canvas, wood, glass, lacquer, pottery, leaf, copper and concrete, and the painting may incorporate multiple other materials, including sand, clay, paper, plaster, gold leaf, and even whole objects.

Painting is an important form of visual art, bringing in elements such as drawing, composition, gesture, narration, and abstraction. Paintings can be naturalistic and representational (as in still life and landscape painting), photographic, abstract, narrative, symbolistic (as in Symbolist art), emotive (as in Expressionism) or political in nature (as in Artivism).

A portion of the history of painting in both Eastern and Western art is dominated by religious art. Examples of this kind of painting range from artwork depicting mythological figures on pottery, to Biblical scenes on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, to scenes from the life of Buddha (or other images of Eastern religious origin). Have you ever been at a job with pay so stagnant, people you are training for the same position are at or above your salary level, multiple years into your tenure? The rage that begins to build at colleagues who through no fault of their own are a living and walking symbol of your futility. The unfairness of being punished for loyalty. It breeds a special kind of disdain for the world.

Why am I walking you through anonymous score settling on a basketball blog? Because I want to make clear right at the top that you are not going to find any sympathy or understanding from me for coaches and pundits who are up in arms at the number of transfers we are seeing every season in the college ranks. My lived experience naturally aligns me with the student athletes trying to make the most of their individual situations.

In the old days, like not even 5 years ago, that meant getting attached to good players for 2 to 3 year increments and constantly welcoming new faces and characters into your hearts. But even though 2 or 3 years seems relatively short compared to other fandoms we may hold, it was enough time to forge some incredible bonds.

I was in the Bradley Center in 2012 for Senior Day against Georgetown, and getting to say goodbye one last time to Darius Johnson-Odom (at Marquette for 3 years) and Jae Crowder (2 years) felt like losing a part of myself. They had helped bring so much joy in that timespan, and secured lifelong followers even after their Marquette days ended with the expiration of their eligibility.

And here is where we get to the crux of this piece. Stevie Mitchell did not leave. In fact, no one on Marquette left. For the 2nd consecutive season, Marquette did not have any player that was part of the rotation leave. And this season, no one did. Only 5 teams across Division I can say that, and 2 of those are service academies.

I will once more reiterate, this fact would be surprising most seasons, but with multiple transfers, COVID bonus years and NIL bonanzas, this is nearly unfathomable. I would not have thought any less of Marquette if a player or 2 had left after this season, and 100% expected it, both based off my eyes and what peeps in the back were saying. I spent 600 words up top making that clear. Players should be prioritize their limited playing and earning potential.

Almost 2 years ago, Matt Norlander and Gary Parrish spoke at length about the changing nature of college recruiting. Teams were going to focus on bringing in established transfers rather than chase the young, non-5 stars out of high school that were much less of a sure thing.

Kam Jones could have hit the portal and probably started a bidding war that made him one of the highest paid players in the country. But he told us he was all in weeks ago, and we get to savor him for a 4th consecutive season.

David Joplin sacrificed his usage last season and has never been the featured part of MU, the way his scoring talents dictate he could be. It would not have been out of the question to see him find a place where he could be that player.

Tag: The Power of Paint is a freeware first-person puzzle game developed by Tag Team, a group of students from the DigiPen Institute of Technology. The game features a paint-gun which allows the player to alter the properties of surfaces around them, similar to how the Gels work in Portal 2. The project team has since been hired into Valve corporation to work on Portal 2.

The bounce and speed gels were added into Portal 2 with modified colors. The other gel, "stick", or Adhesion, was removed because Valve found that it gave playtesters motion sickness. It was replaced with Conversion Gel.

Presented as a collaboration between Jewel and Crystal Bridges, The Portal features one-of-a-kind, 200-piece aerial drone shows choreographed by Jewel and set to an original score by the artist, a meditative art walk featuring works by prominent contemporary artists, a never-before-seen painting and sculpture by Jewel, and chef-crafted dining options as part of a complete experience for the body, mind, and spirit.

Encompassing our experiences of mind, body, and spirit, Jewel has meticulously crafted each aspect of The Portal to harmonize the Three Spheres, creating a dynamic space and experience where inner thoughts, external actions, and hidden emotions converge.

Gel or Paint is a puzzle element of Portal 2. It flows out of droppers in blobs, or in packets of blobs as bombs, and covers most surfaces or objects it touches, changing the physical properties and coloring it. The exceptions to this are glass and grating: glass cannot be painted, and gel travels through grating. Gel streams can be redirected with portals and excursion funnels.

This how Valve does their droppers in Portal 2. Alternatively, you can use a logic_timer instead using the output above, just change OnExploded to OnTimer. This alternative method will allow multiple paint bombs to be used at once, greatly increasing the chances of two bombs colliding with each other in midair, which can be a simple nuisance, or a clever trick to solve a puzzle.

If your input device can be activated rapidly, consider having a logic_relay do the spawning inputs so that you can temporarily disallow the env_entity_maker from spawning more paint bombs after your device is activated.

How Valve could have missed this is not very clear, because at least one Art Therapy map used conversion gel, so they must have noticed. This gives rise to the thought that it was an intended change, possibly to make it blend in better with darker areas, or so it's more visible on white surfaces.

When designing a puzzle, be very mindful of possible exploits that may come of implementing gel as an element! It is generally very easy to exploit, and it should therefore be handled somewhat restrictively. When gel ends up in unplanned spots, puzzles can break. To keep your maps from having gel issues, there are multiple solutions:

Inside the test chamber, more surfaces are portalable, enabling more possibilities. Not seen in this picture is gel on the platform the player is currently standing on. With precise movements, the player can use gel to skip the final fling in this test.

Above the first test on sp_a3_crazy_box. Paint bomb trajectory can be changed by nudging to go over the rail separating the test chamber from the area above it. Bomb nudging can also be used to paint and climb walls (see top right). This can technically be a really weird route into the next test chamber.

An example of angled flinging on sp_a3_speed_ramp. The gel dropper sends gel straight into the blue portal. The gel comes out of the orange portal at just the right angle and position to send it through the blue portal a second time, with a different angle. The gel exits through the orange portal again, but with a new angle, landing in a new spot. Using this, a large amount of the room can be painted, but to no actual use.

sp_a3_portal_intro, the underground conversion gel test. The platform the player is supposed to get to is hard to get gel on, so flying to it's a more viable option. The platform can be painted on, but doing so is tricky and still requires an increase of momentum.
