I also tried reinstalling the DisplayLink drivers. One monitor was back - but only briefly, unfortunately. When I touched the HDMI cables of the other monitor to make sure there was no loose contact, the one that had just restarted working, broke down again.
"Fully unplug the dock from all devices, power, and USB-C cable to the host computer. Wait about 30-60 seconds, then reconnect the power cable first, USB-C host cable next, and USB devices last. Sometimes a reset in this order can resolve this issue.
We have a troubleshooting tool that helps us find out what is going on in situations like this. Please plug the dock with your monitors attached to it into your computer, then go to this page and follow the instructions there:
Reattach the power cable to the dock first. Once the dock is powered on, reconnect it to your system which will trigger the final portion of the installation. If the device is not detected, please reboot the system.
What a pity But thanks for providing me with another device which hopefully can fix the issue. The warranty should still be valid btw if that is relevant as I bought the docking station less than a year ago

Yes, we understand. It is indeed frustrating when the USB 3.0 hub is not recognized by your computer. Everything is hooked up, but there is error message popping up, "USB Device Not Recognized". Or even worse, there is nothing. The USB hub is simply not detected at all.
But please don't panic. All of atolla USB hubs have gone through multi-layers of inspection before shipping and we have the belief that your hub won't break that easy. Browse on, it is likely that any of the below troubleshooting steps will wake the hub up to work correctly.
As the USB 3.0 port is the most common port in today's computer, all motherboard manufacturers will provide an integrated USB 3.0 driver with it. If your laptop is running a Windows Version later than Windows 8, Windows also will provide auto installation for USB 3.0 driver via Windows Update.

Interesting about this dock (maybe others do this as well, dunno) is that the USB devices inside the dock (audio, SD cards) only show up as USB devices when you insert a cable or card into them, which seems neat.
In USB compatibility mode (I added a USB2-only converter cable somewhere in the uplink), all USB ports, the card reader and audio still work. Ethernet does not work, since that is a PCIe only ethernet chip that needs thunderbolt to work. In my USB2-only setup, display outputs obviously did not work (no DisplayLink or similar display-over-USB present). Whether display output would work on a non-TB but DP-alt-mode capable USB-C port I do not know (no such port available for testing here).
The Anker can be had pretty cheap, small and is perfect for mobile users. USB, Ethernet, HDMI. It needs to be fed through a USB-C PSU (not included, your frame.work power supply will do just perfect). It can output HDMI at 30Hz only, though.
The Dell D6000 Dock needs Windows for firmware updates. Most refurbished offers on eBay have not the latest firmware. Also make sure it comes with a Dell PSU; the Frame.work USB-C power supply will not be sufficient.
An ethernet chip is a separate and specific device (connected through tunneled PCIe in this case), so it does need a specific OS driver. However, it might very well be that the chip used inside the Connect 10G is supported by Linux and then it might just work (since the PCIe tunneling will make it look like the ethernet chip is directly connected to the PCIe bus anyway) even when Caldigit does not provide drivers or explicit support for Linux.
I am using a JSAUX dock which is able to support connecting to two external monitors from a steam deck. However, when I connect the Ally to it, although windows detects two external monitors, output is only sent to one. Is this a limitation of the Ally, or the dock I am using?
Has anyone got any output on two monitors from the Ally and if so, what hardware did you use?
Any update on this? I've been curious to see if it could be done before I spend the money on another dock. I have a JSAUX with a single display output but I would buy a dual output dock if it works. Did you try disabling the built in display to get that second monitor working?
Got 2 external monitors & the Ally working (screenshot below). I'm using a "zmuipng" dock from Amazon which has two HDMI and also a displayport (not using here but does work with my Rift S VR head). Got one issue though the taskbar on the Ally display is cut off so only the top half is displayed, external monitor taskbars are ok. This only happens when the external montiors on plugged in, any ideas?set)
