The 2024 fitness challenge will run 6 weeks, April 7- May 19. The goal for each town is to have the most active minutes each week. At the end of the 6 weeks, the town with the highest average total will be awarded the Fittest Community trophy.

In previous years, the goal was to complete as many activity/exercise minutes as possible each day and report those minutes at the end of each week. This year, each town will alternate hosting a walk in their town. At each walk, present participants will be entered in a raffle for a prize.

Participants are invited to join all three towns for the April 7 kickoff event on the Davidson Town Green, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. The event will feature activities for all ages, light refreshments, and raffle prizes provided by each town.

Participants need to register for the town in which they reside and can continue to register up to week 3. Participants who register after the challenge has started WILL NOT be able to submit their minutes from past weeks. They will ONLY be able to submit minutes that were accumulated in the current week.

1000 minutes per individual is the maximum each family/household can report. This ensures that the competition is fair for all teams and that a group of "super athletes" cannot affect the calculations.

The BLM Fire Fitness Challenge provides a common system by which BLM firefighters can measure current fitness, establish fitness goals, track fitness improvement, and receive recognition for their efforts. The Fitness Challenge is voluntary, but BLM firefighters are strongly encouraged to participate.

The BLM Fire Fitness Challenge has been available since the early 2000s. After researching similar fitness programs used by the U.S. military, municipal fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and consulting with academia and physical fitness experts, the BLM Fire Fitness Challenge was updated in 2022.

The BLM Fire Fitness Challenge measures fitness in four basic exercises: pull-ups (or flexed-arm hang), push-ups, planking, and a 1.5 (or 3-mile) timed run. Point scales have been updated and now include separate scales for men and women.

Participation in the BLM Fire Fitness Challenge is voluntary. Submission of data (challenge results and scores) is also voluntary; Providing your name is optional but is required if participants wish to be considered for recognition. Reminder: before participating in the BLM Fire Fitness Challenge, you should consult your physician or other healthcare provider before starting an exercise program. Participants must be cleared through the DOI Medical Standards program for light, moderate, or arduous duty, or must complete a Health Screen Questionnaire (HSQ). If the HSQ indicates the need for a medical exam, participants are responsible for consulting their physician at their own expense and obtaining permission to participate.

Submit Fitness Challenge scores recorded on provided spreadsheet to Mark Skudlarek: msku...@blm.gov or using the QR Code/MS Form link by October 1st, 2023. Results will be compiled and shared within participating states.

The National Interagency Fire Center is committed to making its information and communication technologies accessible to individuals with disabilities by meeting or exceeding the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. What sets this year's challenge apart? The theme for this year's Mayor's Fitness Challenge will be the military. Each participant will represent a military branch, and many of the fitness activities will be led by former veterans or active duty members. Challenges will be held at 6 PM, Wednesday through Friday. If an event is not held on a Friday, it will take place on the following Saturday or Sunday at 9:30 AM.

You can enter an activity into our app either by manually entering its distance or by syncing your activities from your favorite fitness tracker or smartwatch. Currently, we support: Apple Watch, Apple Health, Garmin, Fitbit, Adidas Running, Strava, Map My Run, Map My Ride, Map My Walk, Runkeeper.

You can either post all your distances to all of your challenges or you can decide what types of distances go to which challenges. e.g. you might want to send your walking distances to one challenge and your cycling or swimming distances to another challenge. It's completetely up to you.

You can log most types of distance based exercise such as running, walking, cycling, swimming, rowing etc. For other non distance based exercise such as yoga or cross fit, we have a handy conversion chart that converts time doing these activities into distance equivalents that you can use..
