Hi guys,

Is there a way to search for festivals using the API?

I can do a calendar/event search for an artist/metroArea/location, and filter results base on the event 'type' field, but this requires me to know either an artist or area name (and a date range) related to the festival, which isn't really the natural way of searching for a festival.

What would be awesome would be if it was possible to search for the festival by name - much like it is currently done through the website.

Can you help?

Thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin,

You can add a search filter of "type" to the event search endpoint (either "concert" or "festival"), e.g.:

We appear to be missing that from the documentation, will get that fixed soon!

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your response. That's really good to you know that it's possible to 'pre-filter' the results, rather than having to sift through results for the event type. Thanks very much!

It would be incredibly useful if there were a way to search using the festival name, (i.e. without needing to know the location of the festival, or any of the bands playing at the festival). Again, it's something that's available through the website, and feels more like the natural way of searching for festival information.

Thanks again for your response! All the best,

Robin

To piggy back off of Robin's second request. Is it possible to query using the displayName? Or something like it? For example. I want to see all the artists performing at Austin City Limits.

Hi Michael,

Sorry to say there's no method to search by event name built into the API.
In your example you'd need to search for festivals in the Austin metro area and deduce the correct festival from the results.

Thanks,

Joe

It doesn't seem appending "&type=festival" is doing anything for the metro_areas calendar endpoint.

I sent the following request:

and my response still includes numerous concerts.

Anyone else here experiencing the same behavior?

Cheers,
Andrew

I found the issue!

http://api.songkick.com/api/3.0/events.json?apikey={YOUR API KEY}&location=sk:26330&type=festival

Note: You need to append 'sk:' to your location code.

The request from the docs here don't let you pre-filter:

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Cheers,
