Song for Africa Newsletter – Issue #3, February 2009

The Song for Africa staff would like to take this opportunity to wish
everyone a happy and healthy 2009 and to thank all of you for your
continued support. We are very excited about the new year and all that
it has to offer.

Recap of Recent Events:

Introducing the SFA Scholarship Fund Recipients:
Faith Khalea (13 yrs): Faith started her first day at Shiners Girls
High School, a boarding school in Nairobi this January ’09 thanks to
your charitable donations. This marked a big step forward for her and
her continued success.
Helen Nduku (11 yrs): Helen is enrolled at the Baraka za Ibrahim
Centre in Kibera.
Millicent Adhiamo (17 yrs): Millie is enrolled at Glory Secondary
School.
Jeremiah Omondi (15 yrs): Jerry is enrolled at Primary Boys Boarding
School in Kajiado.

The SFA Scholarship Fund was created to give youth from Kibera, Kenya,
the opportunity to finish their high school education and help guide
them towards a brighter future.
SFA hopes to sponsor a fifth student this year as well as to extend
our scholarship fund into Rwanda. We will be sharing updates on how
our students are doing and how your generosity is making a concrete
difference in their everyday lives. For more information about our
scholarship fund, please contact no...@songforafrica.com.

SFA Fun Day for Scholarship Recipients:
On December 10, 2008, Rebecca Nawade, SFA's In-Country Representative,
took Faith and Helen on a fun day to a local park in Nairobi (outside
of Kibera). The girls enjoyed a boat ride, running on green grass and
eating ice cream! For Helen, this trip marked two major firsts -
leaving Kibera and seeing a tree. Activities like these are what make
the SFA Scholarship Fund unique and so important. To help us keep
programs like these going, you can donate to the fund on our website,
purchase SFA merchandise, or participate in our upcoming online
celebrity art auction.

SFA Public Service Announcements:
SFA recently recorded its newest PSA with the help of Canadian Rocker
George Pettit – lead singer for Alexisonfire.
It will be hitting the airwaves on CityTV in the next month or so and
you will also be able to catch it on YouTube soon after.

New Look for SFA:
The Song for Africa website will be getting a well deserved makeover
over the next couple of weeks with the help of a graphic design team
from Pezus Advanced Web & Graphic Design in Montreal. We are hoping it
will be up and running by March 1st. Make sure to stop by and check it
out and give us your feedback. http://www.pezus.com/index.php

Upcoming Events for Song for Africa:

Song for Africa Celebrity Art Auction:
To get 2009 off on the right foot and help those truly in need, Song
for Africa is hosting an ongoing online Celebrity Art Auction with the
goal of raising funds for the SFA Scholarship Fund. Canadian musicians
and celebrities will create original visual works of art which will be
auctioned off for this innovative fundraiser. The first event will
take place through SFA’s virtual store on eBay in April of 2009. We
will be sending out a message with the details and link soon so you
can help us make a difference and purchase one of your favourite
rockstars’ original work of art.
