Hi singers,Well it was a truly magical evening last week. The little yard held us like a cozy green container and we just had a blast- yummy food, lovely companionship, great singing, sweet fire, beautiful weather, and we sang until it was too dark to see then went inside for dessert and conversation. Thanks to everyone who came for making it such a special time. And we hope to see more of you at our next circle at Carol Shakow's house on Aug 23rd. I will send out a reminder next week with directions. Then we will have a 3 week period since August has 5 Thursdays ( and a blue moon) unless some one feels like hosting an extra meeting and folks feel like showing up!Check out this blog post about singing- very sweet:http://songsformydaughter.wordpress.com/2012/08/08/show-tunes-to-the-rescue/And here is the link to the Pete Seeger interview on The Colbert Report:Don't miss it! He is so awesome!I have created a google group for this email list. That way we won't have to worry about me accidentally dropping names from this list. Go to the website and join the group, then we can use the group email address ( song-circle-ba...@googlegroups.com ) for logistical communication. Let me know if this works for you or if you have any questions. Here is the website: http://groups.google.com/group/song-circle-bainbridge-islandThanks tons and keep singing!MariaMaria Cook LAc, LMT, EAMPIsland Massage and AcupunctureLean on me, when you're not strongAnd I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on...

I prepared a draft with their names, ready to send once I wrote out this message, but it somehow got deleted and with it their names. So if you know someone who might like to be on this list and isn't, could you forward this message to them and have them send me yet another email with a request to be added. I promise to be careful but, dang it, sometimes stuff happens. At any rate, I hope that everyone hears about this invitation and that everyone who wants to come, comes. Singing and potluck dinner at my house tomorrow, Thurs. Dinner at 6:30, singing at 7. Bring a dish to share. And bring a folding lawn chair if you have one. We will be outside (unless it rains) so bring a warm layer. Bring a headlamp too, in case it gets too dark to read before we are ready to quit. Bring your Rise Up Singing and bring yourself. Come to sing, come to listen, come to share. See you tomorrow.Directions: 414 Madrona Way in the mobile home park. Turn east on Madrona Way across from the Pavilion movie marquee. Park in the vacant lots off Madrona Way and walk down the second street into the park. Mine is the second to the last mobile on the left on the second street. 414. 842-1179See you soon!Maria

Location—RainyCamp is held at Camp Don Bosco in Carnation, Washington.
· Accommodations are dormitory buildings with rooms containing 6-8 bunk beds. Each building has toilet facilities, but showers are in separate buildings. Bedding is not provided.
· RV’s can bring you to the site, but may not be used as dormitories (camp rules).
· Maps will be sent with your receipt, starting early December.
Workshops—There are a number of scheduled work-shops on Saturday and Sunday, and always space left for do-it-yourself ones. As RainyCamp is an offshoot of Seattle Song Circle, most are in song circle format (participants take turns to lead, request, or pass), but some may be presentation or teaching. Subjects in past years have ranged from Celtic, Bawdy and Parodies to Gospel, French-Canadian and Song-writing. As both subjects and leaders are drawn from the attendees, we need suggestions and volunteers—if you’re interested, please let us know by Dec 15 if possible (when indicating time wanted, don’t be shy—if a workshop runs out of steam earlier, just break up & go to another one). Although the primary focus of the weekend is singing, instrumental jams are common and space is available for them. A materials allowance of $10 is available for workshop leaders.
See you soon, singers,
Maria

Many people ask me how I plan to vote in this election as I have been involved for a number of years in local government and have my ear close to the ground. So, I decided to send this email because this election is critical if we want to have independent thinkers representing the values we share. Frankly, I am worried about the future of our island in this election and I want to tell you that your informed vote in this election is critical. I hope you don't mind that I am sending this! The candidates that I support for city council present a terrific range of skill sets and experience, and I believe they will be collaborative listeners, independent thinkers, and hard workers who will represent us well and not micromanage. Roger Townsend is a dad with young kids and we need this demographic on the council! Val Tollefson has lived, worked, and volunteered on Bainbridge for years and he understands our core values. Wayne Roth is a skilled and collaborative listener. Please check them out yourself to inform your choice. I have included below a few links to websites and an email from John Ellis at Quality Bainbridge with direct links to their webpages. They are faced by a slate of 3 conservative candidates with limited agendas that are backed by a "big money" PAC.Let's move forward with independent, moderate, and collaborative candidates. Thanks for reading this.LindaI am voting for:City Council Val Tolleffson, Roger Townsend and Wayne RothSchool Board Mike Spence, Mev Hoberg and Sheila JakubikFire District Board of Commissioners Teri Dettmer, David Lynch, Eileen McSherryCheck out these websites for additional information about the candidates:http://www.qualitybainbridge.org/
