Hi singers!
Happy New Year!
Sophie just forwarded me this great article about the benefits of singing- something we all know about and have experienced.
The gist is:
Group singing is cheaper than therapy, healthier than drinking, and certainly more fun than working out.  It is the one thing in life where feeling better is pretty much guaranteed.  Even if you walked into rehearsal exhausted and depressed, by the end of the night you’ll walk out high as a kite on endorphins and good will.

Very cool article!

Darden send info abut first Sunday concerts:
First Sundays Concerts presents jazz vocalist Kelley Johnson accompanied by John Hansen on piano, Jon Hamar on bass and Adam Kessler on drums, Sunday January 5 at 4:00. This stellar line up of jazz artists are at the forefront of the jazz scene in the Pacific Northwest. The concert takes place at the Waterfront Park Community Center. Tickets are available at brownpapertickets.com. For more information go to: www.firstsundaysconcerts.org. and www.kelleyjohnson.com.

The last song circle was WONDERFUL!  So sweet and fun- think there were about 15 of us and we had a blast- didn't really sing carols but many seasonal songs and, for sure, songs that bring light into the darkest times.  Thank you so much, Rick, for the great accompaniment! I was certainly high as a kite on endorphins and good will by the end of the evening.

So come to Bonnie's on the 9th for a wonderful time.  I leave on the 8th for my dream vacation to the Galapagos and Machu Picchu so won't be there to join you, but your spirits will be with me in the southern lands, so sing out!  Remember-you don't have to RSVP, bring your book- Rise Up Singing, if you have it, come if you can- you will be so glad you did, everyone is welcome, come late if you have to, leave when you need to. Thanks Bonnie for hosting!!!

Directions to Bonnie's:  Hi Singers,  I hope to see you on Thursday evening (7pm) for singing at my house.  My address is 4198 Blakely Avenue NE -- though my house is not right on Blakely.  See directions below & don't forget to bring your songbooks!  If you do get lost, my phone numbers are:  842-7523 and 407-5494.

Directions to Snedeker place:

Going south on Blakely Avenue, go past Blakely School and then Islandwood (Environmental Learning Center) on your left.  Just as you see the Rich Passage ahead and are approaching West Blakely Road/hill, take a left turn on to an unmarked gravel road.  (There is a telephone pole with a reflector)  Our house is the second on the right (marked 4198).   If you go past this turnoff -- or are coming from the South End, look for Birkland Road.  Turn up hill on Birkland and look for the gravel road to your left, just after the row of mailboxes.  Our house will be the second on the left if you go this way.  Driveway space is limited; feel free to drive in and park on the grass.

Singing at the end of the month is unclear and hope to have it figured out before I leave. We are hopful that it will work out for Therese and Terri at Sacred Groves to host, but it is still not sure.  If you want to host either Jan 23 or 30, let me know asap!  Thanks a lot and stay warm!

Wishing you great joy in the New Year!
Maria
