Hello,

Is there any ETA to support more language plugins in SonarLint (CSS for instance)?

Thank you

Hi @David,

As anything done in the past 2 years on SonarQube and SonarLint products our top priority is first to provide a unified, simple and efficient end-user experience. This is really what currently drives all our functional choices. SonarLint remains a young product and we keep on injecting a lot of changes/features. For the time-being, we want to have a full control on the changes we can inject (so not having to maintain a public API) and on the way we're integrating/interacting with analyzers.

So the answer is no ETA even if I know this is not the answer you'd like to get.
Cheers
Freddy

Hi Freddy,

Thanks for your feedback.

Even if I can understand the reasons, I'm a bit perplex.

Are requirements to be compatible with SonarLint that strong? So far, I've never seen a release of SonarLint requiring all your plugins to be upgraded to be compatible... I've never seen a compatibility matrix either. Are CSS/Less, Java Properties, JSON, etc. plugins that far from being compatible with SonarLint as they are built on the latest versions of the SonarQube API?

Can't a guideline to be compatible with SonarLint be published? Can't there be any way to users to configure what additional analyzers to trigger (on top of the ones officially supported by SonarQube) with SonarLint?

I don't believe that's a huge effort compared to the thousands of hours spent by the community to maintain valuable plugins for free and no rewards.

I think this thread and response also relates to my new thread as I hadn't seen this until now

From

"For the time-being, we want to have a full control on the changes we can inject (so not having to maintain a public API) a"

I certainly understand you're intentions here however you could still document the API as it exists even if it might get broken more frequently e.g. you could indicate plug ins would have to change from calling x to calling y.    At least this way you could more adoption from the community into SonarLint whilst still allowing you to expedite development of SonarLint in it's early stages?

Thanks

Hi Matadamson, I don't have any new thoughts to share :). I really understand that you would like me to change my mind on this subject but for the timebeing I don't have any update to do to my last answer.
Cheers
Freddy
