Diwakar, an Indian Brigadier, is charged to eradicate terrorism in Kashmir. Diwakar lives with his sister Anu. His neighbour Priya falls in love with him. One day, the terrorists kidnap Anu and they kill her thereafter. In the past, Diwakar promised Anu to marry Priya. To fulfil his sister's wish, Diwakar eventually marries Priya. But Diwakar cannot live happily as long as he does not eliminate the terrorists. It was the first ever Indian movie to portray Lashkar-e-Taiba activity in Kashmir and ULFA terrorism.

Colonel James Achilles Kirkpatrick was the British Resident or Ambassador at the Indian court of Hyderabad between 1797 and 1805. Kirkpatrick had gone out to India full of ambition, intent on making his name in the subjection of a nation; but instead it was he who was conquered, not by an army but by a Hyderabadi noblewoman called Khair un-Nissa. In 1800, after falling in love with Khair, Kirkpatrick not only married her, according to Muslim law, and adopted Mughal clothes and ways of living, but had actually converted to Islam and had became a double agent working against the East India Company and for the Hyderabadis.

William Dalrymple sheds light on some of the key actors involved in Mughal India, and the love story that brought together two very different worlds in an age of Empire. He explores the full story in 'Love and Betrayal in India: The White Mughal' on BBC Four, 3 September at 9pm. The programme will be available to watch soon afterwards on BBC iPlayer.

These days we tend to focus on the romantic and sexual elements of the process. The signs of this are everywhere: Millions of people use online dating sites each month in search of romantic partners. Advertisers exploit our love affair with love to sell everything from aftershave lotion to sports cars. And Hollywood jerks our heart strings with blockbuster romantic adventures.

So how do we keep the life-giving flame of love alive? The ancient thinkers of India, who devoted a great deal of attention to this problem, recognized and honored the power of sex and romance to jump-start our flagging emotions. But the important question for them was, where do we go from there? How do we harness the intoxicating power of falling in love to create a happiness that endures even after the initial flame dies away?

These philosophers began pondering this topic during Vedic times in the centuries before Christ and further developed their ideas during the great revival of bhakti yoga, or the path of divine love, in the 15th century and beyond.

Out of this bubbling stew of feelings is born shringara, or romance. Lovers stir the pot of their erotic attraction by seeing one another as embodiments of all their cravings. And they spice it up by sharing secrets, making up affectionate names for one another, playing games, and giving inventive gifts. This imaginative play of love is symbolized by the relationship of the divine couple, Radha and Krishna, whose romantic adventures are celebrated in Indian dance, music, theater, and poetry.

While compassion is a wonderful quality, it is not quite the final word. Beyond interpersonal love, the Indian tradition envisioned an impersonal form in which our sympathies gradually expand to embrace the whole of creation.

Why would a male poet talk in a female voice? Explore how Mughal poets used themes of love and desire to define a spiritually grounded life and explore gendered conduct in ways that still resonate today.

Then there is "Steady Love," a song that's not about the highs or lows of a relationship, but about steadiness. A song about a partner who is there day-in and day-out. Last month we premiered the Nandy McClean-directed video, which features an appearance from David Banner as her love interest. The video was a success, largely due to the on-camera chemistry between the two. (The chemistry came across so real people questioned if they were actually a couple.)

In the world's most populous nation, which is now India, with more than 1.4 billion people, arranged marriages are normal. Parents usually find spouses for their children based on caste or religion. Now a younger generation is pushing back, sometimes leading to fractured families or violence at home. My colleague Lauren Frayer spent five years as NPR's India correspondent, and she's reported a new series for NPR's Rough Translation podcast. It's about love, marriage but also secret notes, a threat of suicide and a vigilante group that goes by the name of Love Commandos.

FRAYER: They're 15 and 17, and they fall in love. The difference is that Surya and Akanksha are from different castes, and many people in India feel that you should marry within your caste. And you should also marry the person that your parents arrange for you. Both of them had to accept that they were going to go against all of these traditions in their society and against the path that pretty much everyone they knew had taken.

FRAYER: They come up with three plans. Plan A, we'll convince our parents. They'll accept our relationship. We'll win them over. They'll love that we're together. Plan B is if our parents don't accept our relationship, we're going to have to run away, and we're going to have to elope. And plan C is suicide.

Region: This dish is not necessarily native to a region but rather a community, Parsi, known for being followers of the Iranian prophet Zoroaster.
How It's Cooked: Scrambled
The Dish: This may sound very similar to egg bhurji, and it is. But there are two key differences: First, the eggs are intended to be runny (this is less of a hard and fast rule for bhurji), and second, powdered spices are subbed out for additional onions and whole green chiles. For heat lovers only.

Seema Ghulam Haider and Sachin Meena met online in 2019 while playing PUBG. This culminated into a dramatic love story between the two who lived over 1,300 km apart in countries not friendly with each other.

"She should just send her children back to Pakistan. She can stay there. Now she is no longer a Muslim even," her landlord's 16-year-old son said. Seema had been living on rented with her children for the three years before deciding to come to India to be with her Hindu lover.

The story of this not so educated mother of four and the wife of a man working abroad abandoning everything and entering India illegally to be with a much younger lover has fascinated everyone in her neighbourhood in Bhittaiabad - a Katchi Abadi in the heart of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

To the Church members in India, Elder Uchtdorf is not only an instructor who teaches gospel principles from the podium, he is also a leader that cares about those he teaches. During his visit, he embraced the Saints with love by giving them hugs, shaking their hands, giving high-fives to the little children and never missing the chance to show a hand heart. He spent extra time with the congregation after each meeting to get to know individual members.
