About the overall project
The Glen Park Community Garden expansion project began in 2018 with the purchase of a residential property at 5 Palmer Avenue completely surrounded by parkland. The Somerville Community Preservation Committee funded its transformation into an extension of the existing, thriving community garden. 18 new garden beds were completed in 2024 along with new fencing, a shed, new water lines, and ADA-accessible surfacing. The final phase of the project, now complete, involved replacing a standard metal gate with something that would honor the artistic nature of this city, the spirit of togetherness and growth in our community garden program, and bring art into the park. The Somerville Arts Council in conjunction with OSPCD’s Public Space and Urban Forestry division put out a call to artists in early 2025 and selected Ruchika Madan. Madan is a Somerville resident, ceramicist and tile maker, master gardener, and garden product designer. Please join us in celebrating this vibrant addition to the Glen Park landscape.
