And we’re back! Back at the
Rooted Café at the Somerville Armory. Thanks to everyone who joined us in our sojourn to Bow Market last time! On
March 18th we have a couple of exciting country-tinged performers visiting us from New Hampshire.
Brian Mailhot is a newcomer to us in the Boston area but he casts his net wide enough to include frequent trips to Nashville.
Taylor Hughes is a new traditionalist in the “three-chords-and-the-truth” model with a glorious twangy tenor voice. And don’t forget Boston-area legend
Dinty Child of Session Americana, back with us for the first time in more than a year. Your host is
David Thorne Scott, hoping he finishes his new song in time for the show.
Songwriters in the Round
Wednesday March 18, 7pm-8:30pm
Arts at the Armory Café
free (suggested donation $10-$20
https://artsatthearmory.org/events/songwriters-in-the-round-2026-02-18-2026-03-18/Songwriters in the Round is a warm, welcoming event where people can enjoy food and drink as well as chance meetings and conversation. But everyone becomes quiet when four songwriters take the stage to take turns playing songs, occasionally joining each other on harmony vocals or guitar licks. In between songs, the audience listens while the performers discuss music and life in general. “I was inspired by the ‘guitar pulls’ of the Bluebird Café in Nashville,” host David Thorne Scott says, “but with a wider variety. There is folk and country, but also rock, R&B, soul, jazz, and musical theater.”
Held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The event is free but you may want to donate $10-$20 for the performers.
Our home base is the ROOTED Armory Café. Food, snacks, coffee, tea, beer and wine available!
We occasionally visit other venues — don’t miss out!

You might hear a young up-and-coming pro, an established mid-career performer and mentor, and a cherished elder of the scene -- all sharing music. The growing relationships will warm your heart and enrich your soul. Come every week as the lineup shifts and new friends are made.
All ages welcome.
Our songwriters this weekBrian Mailhot is a soulful songwriter striving to connect with all kind enough to lend an ear. Based in New Hampshire but casting his net wide enough to include Nashville and beyond. Some call his music “new alt-Country.” He just calls it singing.
https://www.instagram.com/brianmailhotmusicDinty Child is a longtime member of the Boston roots/folk scene. A fearless multi-instrumentalist he can most often be seen with the band Session Americana, as well as the Chandler Travis Philharmonic, the unapologetically loud and grimy Catbirds, as sensitive sideman to any number of singer/songwriters, including Rose Cousins and Kris Delmhorst, and even fronting the twenty piece party band, the Funky White Honkies. Many people know that Dinty is a great songwriter, but as a ‘band guy’ he rarely performs solo so having a chance to share the stage and his songs in this format will make it a special night.
www.dintychild.com Taylor Hughes is from Webster, New Hampshire. He grew up on his grandfather’s knee listening to the lates and the greats. His father put a guitar in his hand at a young age and from that point on he has known nothing more than country music.

Your host,
David Thorne Scott, is a singer and songwriter in jazz and Americana styles. A longtime resident of Somerville, he organized Songwriters in the Round to foster a creative, dynamic music scene here. He believes that music can bring a community together like nothing else. “At a time of great conflict in our country – when words often fail us – music has the power to bridge divides... David Thorne Scott explores the intersection of Jazz and Americana, city and country, instrumentation and lyrics to create lush compositions and covers that are unifying, and healing, in their beauty.” - Laurie Fanell, Eponymous Review
