YOUR VOTE MATTERS!
VOTE YES FOR MORE ARTS SPACE IN SOMERVILLE
Big arts news in Somerville!
(actually big arts news no matter where you live)
After years of negotiating a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA), Somerville’s Union Square
Neighborhood Council (USNC) & developer Somernova will present the milestone benefits package
including over 100,000 square feet of arts space--of which at least 60k square feet will be affordable, purpose-built with long term
lease options; this includes 3 new independent live music venues, affordable music recording, rehearsal & artist studios as well as a curatorial advisory team to weigh in on tenancy and more;
it also includes offering public art opportunities to Somerville artists first and mitigation to abutting artist workspace communities during construction.
This CBA for arts will set the precedent for other developments in Somerville
and for Greater Boston. It’s proof that when everyone works together, rowing in the same direction, lots of community needs get met.
In addition to arts being front and center, the Somernova project will include new housing, a new funded community center, the biggest private development project labor agreement (union workers), green/open space, and more. It’s a really big deal that lots
of volunteers spent hundreds of hours on --
#ARTSTAYSHERE sincerely thanks the Union Square Neighborhood Council, the USNC Somernova
CBA Negotiating Team, the Building Trades & Rafi Properties for working together in partnership to benefit everyone in the Union Square community.
