Surprise! We are back for the month of July. Cool off from these hot days by joining us in the air-conditioned fortress that is the Somerville Armory for some amazing songs by four wildly different singers. We welcome Tom Feeley for the first time. He is the rocker of the bunch, voted “Most Likely To Break a Guitar String,” and with a voice that brings you back to 1990s Seattle. Then we have Sam Bergquist, whose folk-inspired approach touches on love, humor and social conscience. Adam Gautille is the experimenter, a multi-trick pony with a smooth voice whose day job is playing trumpet in orchestras in Boston and around the world. And then there’s your host, David Thorne Scott, with his blend of jazz, Americana, and musical theater. You can’t lose with this variety!
Sure you had plans to get caught up with Love Island this Wednesday. But streaming video will be there, waiting for you, when you get back from the Armory. It might take you an extra day to figure out who will be this season’s Nic and Olandria, but it’s definitely worth it to fill up your heart, soul, and mind with 100% human-produced songs performed by 100% human singer/songwriters.
BTW, we are taking August off, so July 1 and July 15 will be your last chance to enjoy Songwriters in the Round until September.

Songwriters in the Round is a warm, welcoming event where people can enjoy food and drink as well as chance meetings and conversation. But everyone becomes quiet when four songwriters take the stage to take turns playing songs, occasionally joining each other on harmony vocals or guitar licks. In between songs, the audience listens while the performers discuss music and life in general. “I was inspired by the ‘guitar pulls’ of the Bluebird Café in Nashville,” host David Thorne Scott says, “but with a wider variety. There is folk and country, but also rock, R&B, soul, jazz, and musical theater.”
Held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

Our songwriters this week
Tom Feeley is a Massachusetts songwriter who performs all around New England in a variety of projects. Raised on a diet of Def Leppard and 80s movies, Tom sounds more like your favorite band's MTV Unplugged than your typical folk singer. Tom writes songs from the perspective of someone who misses the movie montages and miracle comebacks of the 1980s just a bit too much. And it shows. https://www.tommyfeeley.com/
Adam Gautille is a Boston-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist whose music blends vocals, trumpet, and guitar with a genre-hopping spirit. He has most recently been performing across Europe and Asia, but in Boston he is a regular performer with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops. Adam brings warmth, lyricism, and storytelling to intimate stages, drawing from his performances with The Who, Yo-Yo Ma, Andrea Bocelli, Lionel Richie, The Beach Boys, and many more. Sam Bergquist is a guitar playing singer/songwriter from Boston. He began his musical journey by performing frequently in Boston subways, and later released his first of two solo LP’s, appropriately titled, “Songs From the Red Line.” For fifteen years, Bergquist was frontman for Loose Change, a gritty country/blues band that played frequent gigs at some of the area’s most iconic clubs, including Johnny D’s Uptown Lounge, and the original House of Blues. Bergquist grew up listening to the great singer songwriters of the day, Tom Waits, Jackson Browne, Van Morrison, Neil Young, and Joni Mitchell to name a few. Throw in contemporary voices Andrew Bird and Anais Mitchell, and you have a feel for his inspirations. Lyrically, Bergquist’s music delves into matters of the heart, head, and social conscience. “I like to fill in the cracks, find life’s unexplored details.” In February, 2023, Bergquist released a solo EP, “Wiser Then.” https://bergquistmusic.com/
Your host, David Thorne Scott, is a singer and songwriter in jazz and Americana styles. A longtime resident of Somerville, he organized Songwriters in the Round to foster a creative, dynamic music scene here.
