Thursday, September 17 | L. Shankar
You've probably heard him, you just didn't know it. Peter Gabriel. Talking Heads. Yoko Ono. PIL. Echo & the Bunnymen. Phil Collins. And the Grammy-nominated Passion soundtrack for Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ. That's L. Shankar. He's playing Arts at the Armory (Somerville, MA) on September 17: ragas, original compositions, and classic Shakti pieces, with Selvaganesh Vinayakram and Amit Kavthekar, and Selvaganesh's son, Swaminathan Selvaganesh. Doors open at 7pm, the music starts at 8pm with Santoor player Kunal Gunjal to open.
Friday, October 9 | Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Piano & Voice
Alec Ounsworth, best known as the founder of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, takes to our stage this fall for an intimate piano and voice-driven performance. With songwriting that helped define the early 2000s indie scene, Ounsworth built a devoted following through a fiercely independent, direct-to-fan approach in the early days of music blogging and MySpace. That commitment to artistic autonomy earned admiration from artists like David Byrne and David Bowie. Following a run of European shows, this performance offers a rare opportunity to hear Ounsworth’s work reimagined—up close and in a new light.
