What is there to do in Somerville on a Wednesday night in January? Sounds like the setup for a joke, but at the Center for Arts at the Armory on 1/21, we deliver the punch line. Songwriters in the Round is no laughing matter. (except when we sing funny songs, which tbh is pretty often.)
We have a couple of newcomers to our little scene. One is
Theo Griffin, whose brainy yet propulsive lyrics and unpredictable melodies show both deep groove and deep thought. When you hear the youthful anthems of
Zach C-O you might be reminded of the excitement generated by another Berklee rocker from about 30 years ago, John Mayer. We are jazzed about the return of
Adrian Sicam, a funky, polished, sultry keyboard player, singer, and Gentleman of R&B. And
David Thorne Scott will be performing his brand of jazz-infused Americana music. (
joke overheard at the last Songwriters in the Round: “What is Americana music? Americana music is country music for people who don’t want to admit they like country music”)
Songwriters in the Round
Wednesday January 21, 7pm-8:30pm
Arts at the Armory Café
free (suggested donation $10-$20
https://artsatthearmory.org/events/songwriters-in-the-round-2026-01-21/Songwriters in the Round is a warm, welcoming event where people can enjoy food and drink as well as chance meetings and conversation. But everyone becomes quiet when four songwriters take the stage to take turns playing songs, occasionally joining each other on harmony vocals or guitar licks. In between songs, the audience listens while the performers discuss music and life in general. “I was inspired by the ‘guitar pulls’ of the Bluebird Café in Nashville,” host David Thorne Scott says, “but with a wider variety. There is folk and country, but also rock, R&B, soul, jazz, and musical theater.”
Held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The event is free but you may want to donate $10-$20 for the performers.
Our home base is the ROOTED Armory Café at the Somerville Armory. Food, snacks, coffee, tea, beer and wine available!
We occasionally visit other venues — don’t miss out! Sign up for the Songwriters in the Round email list at

Utilizing his multi-instrumentalism, Zach writes, performs, produces, and engineers all parts in his original records. However, he lives to perform live and loves playing stripped-down versions of his music in the intimate, acoustic setting of a cafe.

As the vocalist and keyboardist for the band Neon Grandma, his song "Funky Lover" was popular with club-goers. In addition, Adrian began working the private party circuit of New England, singing at dozens of corporate functions and weddings. Adrian performs with the Shoal Survivors, a musical tribute to Burt Bacharach organized by Carl Sturken (producer, Rihanna). Adrian is currently in the midst of recording and mixing original material for release. He resides in Greenfield MA with his wife and two children.

David Thorne Scott, is a singer and songwriter in jazz and Americana styles. A longtime resident of Somerville, he organized Songwriters in the Round to foster a creative, dynamic music scene here. He believes that music can bring a community together like nothing else. “At a time of great conflict in our country – when words often fail us – music has the power to bridge divides... David Thorne Scott explores the intersection of Jazz and Americana, city and country, instrumentation and lyrics to create lush compositions and covers that are unifying, and healing, in their beauty.” - Laurie Fanell, Eponymous Review
