Somerville Arts Council and the Inside-Out Gallery
present Birdsong by Sri Thumati

“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.” – Ansel Adams
An ode to Spring and a celebration of renewal Somerville artist Sri Thumati brings the organic process of cyanotype to life in her Inside-Out Gallery exhibit, Birdsong (on view through July 1st).
About Birdsong.....
My artistic practice is an expression of my connection with the natural world in a tangible way that is also sensory in process. Nature evokes a sense of wonder in me. Exploring it in my work makes me feel anchored, while engaging with the enigma of the photographic medium.
Cyanotype is a photographic process that uses elements such as light and water that form blue images that seem mysterious during development. The anticipation makes space for unexpected outcomes. It also leaves room for exploration when I want to add different elements to the original image. With this installation I delved into collage and 3D representations of Cyanotype, which gives it more dimension and intentional energy. My vision was to create an atmosphere of curiosity and light-heartedness, while showcasing my skills as a Cyanotype artist.
This installation is called Birdsong, as an ode to Spring.
