February 4th will be something different for you. Actually,
every Songwriters in the Round is a little different. We pride ourselves on keeping it fresh each and every month. We welcome a newcomer, rocker and voracious reader
Evan Joseph Ringle. Who knows — maybe we’ll discuss the novels of Kazuo Ishiguro on stage. Another newcomer is the enchanting musical storyteller
Siha Han from Korea, who works like an Impressionist painter to convey emotion.
Sam Bayer is a familiar face and voice to our series. We always are glad to hear Sam’s unique takes on modern life that can make you laugh and/or cry, depending on your mood. And hosting is the imperturbable
David Thorne Scott, with his jazz-inflected takes on hope, despair, and love.
We will be holding this event at the charming
Rooted Cafe at the Center for Arts at the Armory in Somerville.
Eat, drink, be merry, and become totally absorbed in the songs that sing your life.
Note: the session
the first week in March will be at a special location. More to come about this…

https://artsatthearmory.org/events/songwriters-in-the-round-2-2026-02-04/Songwriters in the Round is a warm, welcoming event where people can enjoy food and drink as well as chance meetings and conversation. But everyone becomes quiet when four songwriters take the stage to take turns playing songs, occasionally joining each other on harmony vocals or guitar licks. In between songs, the audience listens while the performers discuss music and life in general. “I was inspired by the ‘guitar pulls’ of the Bluebird Café in Nashville,” host David Thorne Scott says, “but with a wider variety. There is folk and country, but also rock, R&B, soul, jazz, and musical theater.”
Held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The event is free but you may want to donate $10-$20 for the performers.
Our home base is the ROOTED Armory Café. Food, snacks, coffee, tea, beer and wine available! We occasionally visit other venues — don’t miss out! Sign up for the Songwriters in the Round email list at

All ages welcome.

Sam Bayer is your literate, exuberant guide to an imaginary world where housewives win the Nobel Prize in physics, poker-playing children gamble over their bedtimes, and metaphorical elephants pirouette in the den, four and a half minutes at a time. His latest studio CD, Bad Apple, brings 11 gems from his universe to yours.

David Thorne Scott, is a singer and songwriter in jazz and Americana styles. A longtime resident of Somerville, he organized Songwriters in the Round to foster a creative, dynamic music scene here. He believes that music can bring a community together like nothing else. “At a time of great conflict in our country – when words often fail us – music has the power to bridge divides... David Thorne Scott explores the intersection of Jazz and Americana, city and country, instrumentation and lyrics to create lush compositions and covers that are unifying, and healing, in their beauty.” - Laurie Fanell, Eponymous Review
