Thanks to those who participated in yesterday’s tribute to Charlie.  Below is the Obituary posted on Bailey Funeral Home and also the fitting tribute that Frank DeLaney shared.  I will post the video sometime this week.

If you decide to make a donation to The Raritan Headwaters in Charlie’s memory and think the family may not know you, I suggest you include ”Charlie’s Soccer Mates” to illustrate to his family how much he meant to those who stepped on the field with him on Sundays.

RIP Charlie.

Charlie Louria - Also Known  as The King - Was a Great Man

Charlie was passionate

Charlie loved his wife AGI, His Sons DAVID, STEPHEN and ANDREW

Charlie loved his friends

Charlie loved soccer

I had known Charlie for 40 years and Figure I played 10 games an year with Charlie -- that's 400 games

Charlie was a perfectionist on the field -- so I probably only made 4 passes in those 400 games which lived up to his quality standards!!!

We played together: in high school at Pingry,

Indoor at Elizabeth Armory, at ISP in Randolph and in Livingston:

Summer Leagues in Metuchen for the North Elizabeth Football Club,  the Italian American.

League Adult Leagues in Mendham, Summit and Randolph.

I had tried to retire from soccer 20 years ago at the age of 35..... Charlie called me a wimp... and convinced me to come out to play with Mario and the boys from Mendham.  We also played in the Pingry Alumni Game Every Year.

Finally We played pick-up at Ralston.  Here we are again today.

Charlie was a physical specimen:  strong, imposing; gifted left foot with the keen ability to shield that ball and to make penetrating passes.  He could score with that rocket of a left foot.

He had fortitude and passion.  He loved and in turn was loved.  As a teammate he always had your back.

I still carry scar on my face from an on-field altercation in which Charlie and I had each other’s back.

Charlie was also an All-State Wrestler and Lacrosse Player.

He is in the Sports Hall of Fame at Both Ohio Wesleyan and Pingry

Charlie was a great friend of mine.  I have so many great memories:

Charlie loved music - MTV began broadcasting in August 1981.  I still remember being at his house in Summit watching the Videos.  He loved the English Punk Bands:  the Clash, the Sex Pistols, Flock of Seagulls and many, many other obscure punk bands....

Charlie loved his friends - and had so many of them.  He was fiercely loyal and always dependable.  He was and will always be a great friend.

God rest his soul!  The King is Gone But Note Forgotten.  We will miss him.
